Let’s talk track cutting. It’s been getting worse over the years, and it’s time to address it.
We’ve been receiving complaints from riders who see it happening.
We’ve heard from promoters, after their events, who are appalled after seeing some of the lines that developed at their race.
We’ve had spectators letting us know that they witnessed riders taking “cheater lines.”
We’d like to think that these were all just isolated, innocent mistakes, but unfortunately, it’s a lot of same names that keep coming up over and over.
Let’s be clear with what the rules say. You have to stay within 25 ft of the marked track. Go farther than 25 ft and you’re subject to a penalty.
If there are double stacked arrows, as shown in the photos, you MUST ride between them.
If ribbon or other markers that clearly define the track are present, you must ride the track as intended.
More than once this season, people have presented us with video footage showing rider(s) clearly cutting the course. Since the footage was presented outside of the protest period, however, the results had to stand as they were.
This past week the officers and promoters voted to make an addendum to our current rule book, effective immediately, regarding video footage being used for penalties. It reads as follows:
“In the case of documented video evidence that becomes available up to 48 hours AFTER a race event, the series officers shall apply the penalty commensurate with a course-cutting violation listed herein.”
This allows officials to enforce the existing course-cutting penalties when clear evidence is submitted within 48 hours after an event.

Please just ride the tracks as intended, folks.
