Something For Everyone
Where else can you follow a trail of wildflowers running alongside a stream, wander through a maze of roses and find yourself at a Japanese teahouse or Zen garden, all within an hour or two.

VULCAN TRAIL
At slightly more than a mile in length, the Vulcan Trail is a gem carved from the rough stone of what was once part of the old L&N Birmingham Mineral Railroad.

Located off Richard Arrington, Jr. Boulevard, at the base of Vulcan Park, the trail offers a quiet stroll along a shaded path and fantastic views of the city skyline below.

In 2003, a volunteer group of citizens formed "Friends of Vulcan Trail" to work to make the experience of visiting the trail a highlight for all who walk it.

The Park and Recreation Board is the City's agency responsible for operating all City parks. A five-member board is appointed by the City Council. The Board holds more than 124 pieces of property, encompassing more than 2,000 acres. Included among the City's offerings are dozens of public recreational facilities including golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, walking tracks, stocked lakes, softball fields, recreation centers, and parks for enjoying other outdoor activities.
