Quick RV safety check: do you put a drip loop in your shore-power cord so rainwater can’t run straight into the connection?
A drip loop is simply a “smile-shaped” dip in the cord placed below the level of the pedestal/rig inlet. When water runs along the cable, it drips off at the lowest point instead of following the cord right into your plug.
Why it matters: water + AC shore power can lead to corrosion, nuisance trips, arcing, and heat buildup (and heat is often the first warning sign).
Fast checklist for rainy days:
- Make the lowest part of the loop lower than the connection (gravity wins)
- Keep the cord supported so the plug isn’t carrying the weight
- Plug in fully, twist-lock completely, and snug the collar
- After you’ve run a load (A/C, water heater, charger), carefully feel the plug/inlet: warm is a warning, hot is a problem—shut off power and inspect
