The school year is in full swing, but colder weather will be here before we know it.

Now is a good time for transportation departments to start thinking ahead. Batteries, heaters, cooling systems, lighting, wipers, brakes, and other cold-weather essentials can quickly turn into downtime when temperatures start dropping.

A little planning now can help prevent the scramble when the first real cold snap arrives.

Because a bus sitting in the shop Tuesday afternoon is a very different problem than a bus that won't start Tuesday morning.

A Part Number Can Save a Lot of Time

Here's one of the easiest ways to make a parts search faster:

Don't throw away the old part before recording the number.

Part numbers, casting numbers, labels, connector styles, measurements, and even clear photos can all help narrow down the correct replacement.

Five minutes gathering information before making the call can save a lot of back-and-forth later.

And when there's no readable number left?

That's when the detective work begins. 🔎
