Guarantee of tomorrow
I know it sounds hyper-spiritual, but it’s still the truth: none of us has a guarantee of tomorrow. I’ve been thinking about this truth because last week, a believer I know who seemingly was fine one night was hospitalized the next day with an illness that would take her life within a few days. The truth of the gospel gave everyone the hope of eternal life, but it didn’t lessen the pain of a surprising death. It seems we’re seldom ready for death when it invades our world unexpectedly.

That sad situation did, though, remind me of the importance of living each day well so that we remain in strong fellowship with God and others. In that light, we need to immediately turn to the Lord in repentance when we fail . . . quickly seek to address relationships when they fracture . . . extinguish embers of conflict rapidly before they become a flame . . . without hesitation follow God as soon as we know His will . . . and promptly capitalize on opportunities God gives us when they lie before us. We do not want to put off today’s obedience until tomorrow.

You see, when we can put our head on our pillow at night knowing that all is well with the Lord and others after a busy day, we can face whatever the next day holds — even if it includes God’s calling us home through death. Live well today for God’s glory, friends!
