A customer dropped off an Outback today for a transmission diagnostic. They said they had recently been to the dealer to diagnose the issue and received a quote that they felt was too high. While looking the vehicle over during my diagnostic process, I came across multiple holes in the subframe of the vehicle. This is the second vehicle I have seen come to me from the dealer with holes in the subframe. The issue I have is that the dealer didn’t notify either customer or give them an estimate for the subframe. I consider a rusted out subframe a safety concern since the suspension connects to it. At least mention the subframe to the customer so that they are aware of a potential issue.

Worked on a car yesterday that had two struts that were leaking severely. There was no way those were going to pass inspection. The customer took my advice and opted to replace all four strut assemblies. On a higher mileage car, complete assemblies are the way to go. They asked if they would need an alignment afterwards and I suggested one. I do have this neat tool that helps you set the camber close to where it was with the old strut. If you need some suspension work done or just have an annoying rattle over bumps, call me for an appointment. 724-740-8009

A gentleman asked me to look over his car today. He thought he needed brakes and possibly some other things. His request was that he just wanted the vehicle to be safe. Unfortunately I found the frame rotted away where the subframe attaches. One picture is where I stuck my finger through the frame. I advised the gentleman that it would be unwise to invest any money in the vehicle due to its condition.
