Go the extra mile.
If I could give any advice to a younger married couple or even an older one who have thought to have lost their “spark”…
It would be these words: Go the extra mile.
It is easy, dear sisters, to get caught up in life.
Husband’s work schedule, children’s needs, bearing children, postpartum, house tasks, bills, outside obligations, everything in-between, etc.
I want to nudge you this evening to remember, your marriage is your first ministry - even before your children who do follow right after.
Do not forget to continue wooing one another. Even if your husband has gotten caught up in life himself, go the extra mile and show him it’s still you, him, and Christ against the world.
Remind him of your love for him.
Remind yourself if you need to of your love for him.
Show him you still desire him.
Be kind and gentle in your speech towards him and about him.
Make out time for one another.
Forgive him often, even when he has yet or may never apologize for small offenses. Sometimes, even big ones.
Go the extra mile.
It will bless his soul.
It will bless your marriage.
It will even bless your soul, believe it or not.
The liberal soul shall be made fat and the one who waters shall himself be watered says our Lord. {Proverbs 11:25}
You will be doing your husband good and not harm all the days of your life. That’s what the blessed and favored proverbial 31 woman did. She was a woman of extra miles unto the Lord and for His glory through the many seasons of her life.
Never stop courting one another even long after you are married.
Christ went the extra *everything* for us, and are we not to be like Christ our Savior?
Are we not meant to be a light to *all* and not just the lost?
“And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” {Matthew 5:41}
The best thing parents can give their children is the genuine witness of a healthy, Godly marriage - even through lows and highs. And even if dad is not currently saved, seeing a mama being a living example of the God she professes and exemplifying His love and grace. One day those sweet babies will be all grown up and the last thing you want to do is be looking back at a stranger in your house as the deafening quiet now settles. Do life together and you will forever have your best friend and cheerleader in Christ through every season. It matters, beloved of Christ.
Go the extra mile.
Your flesh and Satan will do everything to convince you not to which is all the more reason to do so!
With love and hope beyond what we see,
Alicia
