In the early fall of 2016, I took a week long solo trip exploring various parts of the Ozark Mountains here in Arkansas. Doing so, in my bus, a 1974 Westfalia Campmobile. Hiking, biking, sweating and freezing, exhausted and rested. All inside roughly 45 sq. ft of German metal on wheels.

That is where The Bus Barn began. The essence of adventure, the relationships formed by likeminded people at shows and on the road, gathering knowledge from folks beyond my years, genuinely listening and learning.

Turning wrenches isn’t a hard thing to do, working on vintage Volkswagens isn’t a hard thing to do. The difficulty presents itself when you decide to do these things to the finest detail, to the standard, as set in Germany when these vehicles came stateside. That is what we do here. As we have done for years, for countless clients, many of which have become good friends. Because to ensure moments as above, having your VW mechanically dependable and safe, well that just leaves you to enjoy the sweat and exhaustion from exploring and living life.

See you guys this weekend at the 34th Annual Eureka Springs Show. - Sam
(If you don’t know, this bus is now living life in Montpellier, France)

1997. That’s the last year this Beetle was on the roads. Now, sitting torn apart in 2026, awaiting extensive work to be built proper, and back on the roads sharing smiles and miles.

Chassis is completely torn down. Two more stages of chassis prep before painting and new floor pans go in. After that, we’ll round out the chassis build and begin to tackle the rust throughout the body.

Another aircooled VW being saved. Proudly, professionally right here in Arkansas.

Progression videos and photos are a regular practice here in the shop. I send work completed, questions, custom ideas, one-offs, and issues to all our clients to finalize, specify, and share all the things that are being tackled on their projects. Especially restorations. Here’s the latest on the New York Ghia that was recently sent out.
From the engagement regarding this build, I figured many would like to see how it’s coming along. Enjoy! - Sam

8 YEARS! Happy Birthday to Bus Barn! Countless cars, unimaginable repairs, amazing laughs and wonderful people we’ve met over these last few years. From full blown restorations, to brakes, engines, and everything in between, if it’s a part of an Aircooled VW, we’ve seen it and we’ve corrected it with care and passion.

To all those who continue to instill trust into me, the shop, and believing in the ability of bringing visions and ideas to reality, whether a new addition, one’s first vintage VW, or the family heirloom, thank you. Thank you for giving me the countless blessings of turning wrenches for these quirky old machines, and being a part of your story (the car’s too), of days full of driving cars that create a different perspective, slow down the world, and bring so many different types of people together. These little German machines truly are something special.

Thank you ♥️✌🏼 -Sam

Photos from the Conway Expo Annual Car Show
The boys cruised up to check out the car show this past Saturday. We saw some sweet rides, but surprisingly no German steel. We should team up and change that for next year. Funny enough, we cruised up in our ‘91 Vanagon and got lots of love. Perhaps we’ll sign up our ‘59 ragtop when it’s done for next year. It’ll be a treat having a little Beetle steal all the thunder despite all the horsepower beasts all over the venue.

The teardown on the ‘69 Karmann Ghia is complete. We’ve got the body off the pan and it’s time to get to work. Tons of small efforts add up to a big finish with chassis overhaul, and this video is simply here for future comparative work 🤘🏼
