How old is your tank water heater?

A Customer wanted to replace theirs with a tankless model.. so out with the old and in with the new! Easy.

Well upon arrival I noticed the unit was aged, and swollen from previous freeze exposure.
The tank had expanded and would not actually come back out of the original opening. Removal required cutting the tank in half.

This is where I make the point of this post. A 15 year old unit, that was regularly maintained was rusted from the inside out. Concerns aren’t only for water quality but also costly repairs due to leaks from the tank its self.

Completed an “off grid” package

The turn around time was extended due to modifications to the area underneath the bed.
The original plan required the loss of the storage drawer.
Once opened up (absolutely surprised at the assembly of electrical wiring by a reputable manufacturer) I instantly took advantage of prime real estate. A few zip ties and about 15 minutes of combining harnesses made component location absolutely ideal.
A 3000 watt Victron multi-plus II
Epoch 460 ah elite lithium with built in class t fuse (😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨)
Victron solar charge controller
Victron smart shunt (a back up monitor to the epoch system)
Victron dc to dc charger for optimal charge performance during transit
And renogy shadow flux 200 watt solar panels.
These panels have an advertised output of 6.98 amps and at peak the 4 panels had a 42 amp output!

A custom mounting plate was made for an awesome family that will adventure to the fullest and I couldn’t be more proud and blessed to complete this project.

Going “off-grid” doesn’t need to cost 10’s of thousands of dollars.
Ask yourself “what’s something that we miss while out camping”
Is it watching a movie? Making coffee in the morning? Running a starlink modem while working on the road.
Systems can power up your entire unit or simply keep your batteries charged without worry of how long the furnace runs.
Many of you are DIY’ers and that’s great!! I’ve seen a lot of custom builds that turned out great.

When you’re out dry camping, you may have concerns of the amount of gallons of propane and battery state of charge remaining for the duration of your stay.

A question that I get from a lot of customers is…

What can I run off my solar?
The short answer is… 🥁
Nothing

Solar panels are designed to harvest sunlight and convert that to energy that provides voltage to a power source. Meaning that basically they are a battery charger. Think of it as a garden hose. (More solar more flow) but if there isn’t a bucket to catch the water then it just dumps on the ground being fairly useless.

Battery banks are something that need to be considered if anyone is interested towards investing in a solar system.

It’s important to size this type of upgrade to suit your needs. Bigger is better isn’t always the case. Many solar manufacturers offer a “calculator” to help you determine what size of system best fits your lifestyle.

A common complaint from rv owners is “my fridge stopped cooling”
Most RV refrigerators use either propane or an AC power source for cooling performance. The component on the back side of the fridge is referred to as the “cooling unit”
The units are filled with an ammonia based liquid and upon failure, will leak out and leave a yellow powder residue usually under the burner or boiler tube.
If your fridge isn’t cooling, but operating this is the first thing you should check. If you notice this yellow powder turn the refrigerator off immediately and seek professional repair.

Trailer brakes, axels, and drums.
Wheel bearings should be serviced approximately 5,000 miles after initial installation.
Where are most rvs built? Indiana. 2,300 miles away.
Did you buy from a local dealer new? Even though you purchased new, your chassis components have contributed to about 50% of the recommended service interval.
This particular customer has dexters NevR l**e drum brakes and wanted a routine brake inspection. The drums on the drivers side of his trailer were compromised from defective brake components which led to excessive amounts of grease to leak from the sealed bearings.
Point of this post, it really is important (not only financially but for safety) to inspect your trailers suspension and axle/brake components routinely. Preferably annually.
