As we get closer to painting Kenny's Mustang. There has been a much debated opinion as to when to install the engine. We prefer to install the engine once the engine compartment is painted so we don't risk damaging freshly painted fenders,a radiator support or top of the firewall. So this is a milestone for this restoration to finally see the engine going back into the car. This also can be quite time consuming as all the little details have to be taken into account such as wiring, harness, clips, wiring harness itself, washer bottles, washer lines, wiper transmissions and wiper motors. And it's all about the details as well. Cleaning every little nut and bolt that we're reusing many times painting then. As well as the occasional nerve-wracking drilling into fresh paint to mount an item inside the engine compartment.

Preparation continues in getting Kenny's Mustang to the final point before paint. Nows the time to get various items back into the car that are easier while it's still disassembled. But before we can do that, many of them require reconditioning themselves. The steering column was completely disassembled stripped of all its paint. All rust remediated bearings cleaned and re-lubricated. All outer portions repainted. Same went for the dash and all the k***s and switches as well. As part of the AC conversion. We had to add additional vents to the dashboard itself. Work continues on now we can place the main – wiring, harness dashboard and steering column back into the vehicle.

Assembly continues with front grill assembly, rear window regulators, dash cluster cleaning/painting, and polishing the guage covers to remove the year's of dirt/scratches. She sure is pretty.

Final phase of sealer prime. Now we block it to 400, take it apart to prepare all the jambs for paint.
Final color on the door jambs, undersides of fenders, roof rails, lower rocker panels, window openings, and all other areas that will be difficult to paint.
Once those are painted the drive train will go in her, that way we aren't hanging over fresh paint.
Kenny's dream machine is getting close to cruising the strip.

After numerous hours of welding repairing floor pans on both the driver and passenger side, installing new inner and outer rocker panels. Cleaning up and straightening previous body mount frame brackets and gas tank frame brackets that a previous shop installed incorrectly. We were finally able to seam seal and completely undercoat the underside of the 65 Impala. Now we are able to mate it with its frame one last time. Just one step closer to getting this iconic Chevy back on the road.

The tear-down starts now that the body is straight. Textured color matched paint being applied to the trunk interior and the inside of the front fenders. This was always poorly painted by the factory and very much the cause of rust. We can't stop the elements from attacking our work when the car goes home, but we can give it the best chance for longevity.
