Shudder at light throttle? Don't condemn the converter yet.
Torque converter clutch shudder feels like driving over rumble strips β usually between 35 and 50 mph under light load. Work it in order:
1οΈβ£ Fluid condition β burnt or contaminated fluid changes clutch friction before anything else does
2οΈβ£ Scan data β watch TCC slip RPM during apply; steady slip vs. cycling tells you two different stories
3οΈβ£ Engine misfire β a lean or misfiring cylinder mimics shudder almost exactly
4οΈβ£ Line pressure β low apply pressure can't hold the clutch
5οΈβ£ Then the converter β lining failure and ballooning are real, and a Recon Certified unit ends the comeback
