Just a quick heads-up: today is a BUSY one. I’ve got a lot of running around on the road along with a packed work schedule, so replies may be a little slower than usual.

Good afternoon! Please give this old man a little time to catch up on replies—my thumbs are working as fast as their Social Security benefits allow. 😂

In the meantime, enjoy today’s episode of “What in the Certified F$*% Happened Here?”—featuring a dips**t mechanic who treated double-checking his work like optional DLC.

Torque specs? Vibes.
Final inspection? Never heard of her.
Professional workmanship? Currently missing, presumed dead. 🔧🤦‍♂️

Enjoy the pictures while I try to figure out whether this was repaired by a mechanic or attacked by a drunk raccoon with a socket set.

P.S. - This was a "reman" engine.

🔧 Today's episode of "What the hell did the last mechanic do?" 🤦‍♂️

Customer came in with an occasional stumble, so while I'm doing the valve cover/intake gaskets, I find THIS.

Old sealing material was basically MUSH. Looks like at some point somebody decided silicone was a perfectly acceptable substitute for doing the damn job correctly. 🙃

And yes... a s**tty seal here can absolutely contribute to a vacuum leak, lean condition, rough idle or intermittent stumble.

Customer says nobody has worked on this before me, so who knows how long ago this was done or who did it.

But seriously... don't be the du***ss mechanic who reaches for a tube of silicone instead of fixing something correctly. 😂

Clean it. Replace the proper seals. Do it right. 🔧
