sometimes seems to be a logistics company as much as a car customization company. Every day, packages moving around the world between us and partners and us and customers. For years we have been trying to add next-level tracking and visibility to our boxes. Our efforts kind of ebb and flow as new technologies ( , IOT, GPS etc) came along and give us a glimpse of a possible future. Usually that vision is then dashed on the rocks of reality. However, this morning gave us another example of why it is so important. Last week, we shipped a box from our workshop in Belgium going to our main office in San Francisco via . It shipped on the 10th and got through customs on the 12th and then disappeared. We figured it was just taking time to come out of customs and with the Presidents holiday on Monday the 16th would be a little late. This morning, there were still no scans and a call to fedex resulted in the dreaded ‘Tell us what is in the box’. After hanging up the phone, I realized I had one of our Apple style AirTag trackers in the box… I pulled up the FindMy app and there was our box… sitting at a FedEx hub in Mississippi. We communicated the location to FedEx and are now waiting for a response. But at least we know where it is. Now we have to hope nothing is damaged. We had made a push on tracking using AirTag clones a few months ago but it kind of petered out as it was difficult getting the trackers back from customers. We were kicking around trying again due to a customer box last week having issues but with today’s events, we’ve made the decision that we’ll just add a tracker deposit onto orders (say above $500) and then refund it when we get the tracker back. If anyone has some thoughts, we’d love to hear them!

Even Ferrari 599 GTOs are getting manual swapped these days! We just finished a manual k**b for a GTO but did it in matte carbon to match the rest of the interior. We’ve seena bit of an increase in demand for our carbon and stainless k**b these days due to the manual swap phenomenon! We can make a similar k**b for Lamborghini or Audi in both gloss or matte. In fact, our k**bs can fit any car with a shift rod with either M10x1.25, M10x1.5 or M8x1.25 threading.

MAcarbon was in Japan for two weeks in September for a little vacation. We spent time around Tokyo and Nagoya. We took some photos of unusual or cool cars we saw as we walked around. Most surprising was to suddenly come across an Alfa SZ, ‘Il Mostro’ (The Monster) just parked casually in a street parking lot in a Tokyo suburb. The Ferrari did not stand out and no one seemed to notice it. The MkV Supra and GTR look much more exotic in Japan than they do here in California. These were the only two we saw during the visit. We’ve been wanting to import a Honda Beat so it was fun to see one being driven – though this one doesn’t look to be an example we’d want to import! The MkIV Supra has been parked in that spot the last few times we were there. We don’t think its moved. The Celica and 300Z show not all Japanese market cars are pristine! The Hummer H2s look comical here in the US but we thought it seemed more serious looking there. Last, the Mini rusting away next to a house in Kamakura seemed to fit right in with the city. Japan is really great to visit…especially if your native currency is USD or Euros. Just be sure to get outside the Tokyo and Kyoto bubbles. There is so much more to see.

We displayed our 350SL shop car at Legends of the Autobahn yesterday during Monterey car week. It was nice to talk to so many of our SL customers! People all day were commenting to us about how much they loved the green karo interior in the car. By the end of the day, John had lost his voice… but then he does like to talk! We do think Mercedes owners need to ‘bring it’ a bit more… Legends is almost a BMW show with Mercedes and Audi grafted on. Besides our own SL(!), our favorite Mercedes might have been the W116 in English Red – what is really orange. We had a 280SL in the color and it was stunning. Some of the 70s colors are so amazing. After the show, we tried to head to Carmel to catch the last hour of the Ferrari Owners club show but HWY1 looked like such a parking lot we turned around. Traffic getting in and out of Monterey was so much worse this year – and from our eyes, nothing to do with Car week. Just huge amounts of traffic clogging all the 1 and 2 lane roads.

Our latest euro R107 Euro bumper customer just sent us photos of his amazing 1974-75 450SLC in citrus green metallic (paint code 874). What a great looking SLC. Citrus Green metallic is our favorite R107 color. The photo does seem a little like the even rarer Cactus Green (code 880) but that was only a 1979-1982 color. So its probably just the lighting… Citrus it is! (If anyone has a R107 in citrus or especially cactus green please reach out!) The SLC benefits even more from the euro bumper conversion than the SL. In USA form the SLC is sooooooo long that lopping off the park bench bumpers transforms the shape. The customer has also upgraded to 15’ Maxilite Bundts. They look great as well. One interesting aspect to this project was that when the customer went to mount the wheels, it was found that sometime in the distant past, the hubs had been converted lug studs. So a set of properly fitting lug nuts had to be found. R107s are 30 to 50 years old so who knows what has been done to them by previous owners! What an amazing SLC… last thing to do are the headlights. Thank you to the customer for letting us use his photo.

Another of our Ferrari 599 ashtray power socket replacements is off to a customer! This time with a center console storage tray insert as well. The unit ships ready for a home based, 20-minute installation. We use an OEM Ferrari power socket so its plug and play – no wires to cut or splice. The 599’s ashtray is tiny, useless, often breaks and is expensive to replace. Our replacement gives you both a power socket and USB-C and USB-A ports. For those without carbon, we can dio it in a matt black finish that matches the OEM black plastic look – without going sticky! The console tray is a 10 second install as the old one just lifts out and the carbon one just goes in its place.

More customer photos of installed Euro bumpers. Our latest euro bumper customer just sent us photos of Sebastian, her midnight blue 380SL. What a great looking SL. We never get tired of seeing a US car transformed! We currently have 2 semi-pre-tariff bumper kits left. Mercedes had raised prices substantially in February on classic parts and now with the additional taxes imposed by the US govt, we will have to add another $100 to the next batch of kits. Plus the cost of our premium rubber will increase and other add-on components will also increase. And the USD is going down so that will increase costs. How stupid is all of this?

Ferrari California wheel center in carbon! If you are tired of the rose gold wheel center on your Cali, replace it with carbon. The customer had us to the transfer of the electronics (we don’t include those parts) and as part of the install we did a light polish on the start button. This had to be done very carefully since the button is no longer available from Ferrari. We offer carbon wheel centers for the California, 430, 458 and 599. Contact MAcarbon for more information.
