The Electra that was also a Riviera:
1959 Buick Electra 225 Four-Door Riviera Sedan

The Riviera name had been bandied about at Buick for years before the personal luxury coupe we all know and love came on the scene for 1963. Buick’s first two-door hardtop coupe, a variant of the Roadmaster series, was dubbed Riviera way back in 1949…the new style's popularity exploded, and other Buick models received the Riviera moniker as well. In a confusing twist, the 1951 Roadmaster long-wheelbase pillared sedan was also dubbed Riviera, capitalizing on the cache of the sexy name. Through most of the ‘50s both 2- and 4-door hardtops continued to be called Riviera, until 1959 when the name was applied exclusively to an all-new, top-drawer Electra 225 four-door hardtop that shared the distinctive curved, 6-window roofline from Cadillac (the “flat top” four-door hardtop was also in the lineup that year). The model and the name was retired from the Electra line after 1962--Buick had other plans on deck for “Riviera”
