Many are familiar with the story of Lemuel Chenoweth winning the bid to build the Philippi Covered Bridge by placing a model of his proposed design between two chairs and standing on it to demonstrate it’s strength. This is not that. Pictured is a replica of the bridge built by the equally talented Atlee Cecil Bolton around 1940. The bridge was pulled or hauled on a trailer or truck through the Forest Festival parade and then displayed at the Belington City Park for years until Mother Nature and vandals took their toll. It was large enough for a child to crawl through. Notice the lady with her purse standing beside the pavilion.
