Hello Belfast Tire Patron’s! Our office will be closed from now until Tuesday October 6th as Ray and his Fiancé Amanda welcome their newborn baby boy. We do tentatively plan to do some work remotely with regard to scheduling and answering service requests by text beginning next week. It’s a great joy being Belfast’s trusted local mechanic shop and we plan to hit the ground running when we return October 6th. Thank you all for your patience and understanding 🐣😊

The team here at Belfast Tire & Auto want remind everyone that with warmer weather in the future you should make arrangements to get your summer tires installed before May 1st. Not only because it is illegal in the State of Maine to drive on studded tires after that date but also to keep those expensive winter tires from wearing out prematurely. Winter tires are made of a softer rubber that improves traction in cold conditions. That soft rubber deteriorates rapidly on hot pavement. Call or text us today for an appointment and keep those studs sharp for next year!

This passed week at Belfast Tire & Auto we had a Toyota Prius come in for it’s annual inspection it didn’t need much as Toyotas are renowned for their reliability. However this Prius has spent years in Maine and you can tell by the on set of rust scale on the underside of the vehicle. We recommended a rust remediation service that involved grinding the rust off and then spraying the metal components with POR15 to encapsulate the rust and stop it in its tracks. Although Toyotas are known to “run forever” around here they usually meet their demise in the form of irreparable rust. Not today rust, not today….

Yesterday the team at Belfast Tire & Auto saved a customer from catastrophic engine failure by catching this worn timing belt just in time before it snapped. The manufacturer service recommendation is 100,000 miles or every seven years. This belt was 12 years old and had 171,000 miles on it. The original belt had deep cracks through the entire circumference and if it had broken the pistons would impact the valves and this customer would have been buying a new engine. We used a quality timing belt component kit and a new water pump while we were in there and this car will be running great for years to come 🔧 🚘

This passed week at Belfast Tire & Auto we performed a State Inspection on this 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 with major rust issues! The first picture circled in red is a rust hole that has eaten through an entire steel Crossmember support attached to this trucks frame! Worst part is this crossmember is what the vehicles fuel tank is attached to… Yes one good pot hole and this thing could have dropped a full tank of gasoline on the side of the road!! We caught it before anything bad happened and we were able to remediate the rust issues with some new crossmember frame supports and plenty of of wire run through the welder 😆 After the new metal work we cleaned and sprayed the whole frame in POR15 and OH YEAH while the truck was in it also got some new brakes! 😬🛑

Is your car due for a new timing belt? Maybe you don’t know when the last time it was done? The timing belt is an integral engine component that can cause catastrophic engine failure if not serviced in accordance with the manufacturer scheduled maintenance interval. This customer needed a new one in their Subaru and we were here to help. Check your service records or make an appointment to have yours inspected as soon as possible.
