Deer season is here, and so are the roadside surprises!

As deer hunting season gets underway across South Texas white-tailed deer are far more active especially around dawn and dusk. Whether you're commuting to work in the morning or driving home after dusk extra caution on the highway can prevent a costly accident.

Here are 5 quick tips from our team to keep you and your family safe on the road this season:

Watch the Clock: Deer are most active between 5 AM–8 AM and 5 PM–8 PM. Drive with extra vigilance during these hours.

High Beams Are Your Friend: When there’s no oncoming traffic use your high beams to catch the reflection of deer eyes along the brush line early.

Remember: They Don't Travel Alone: If you see one deer cross the road slow down immediately. There are almost always two or three more right behind it.

Don't Veer for Deer: If a collision is unavoidable, brake firmly and hold the wheel straight. Swerving at high speeds often causes worse accidents by leading into head-on traffic or off-road ditches.

Slow Down in Wooded & Creek Zones: Deer frequently cross near creeks, dense brush, and designated rural highway corridors.
