Bittner Wins 7th Annual Nittany 40 at Clinton County Speedway
Mill Hall, PA – The national points leader for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek, earned another feature victory on Friday night with stout competition at the Clinton County Speedway. It was third win of the year at Clinton County and his seventh overall this season. AJ Hoffman of Richfield won an exciting Pro Stock feature event. Jeff Weaver Jr. won the 270 Micro Sprints; Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown won the SCDRA 4 Cylinders and Joey Zambotti IV of Kittanning won the Jr. Sprints.
Bittner and Jim Pattock of Leechburg started on the front row after qualifying set the feature from a series of time trials and heat race qualifiers. Pattock took the lead at the drop of the green flag, and the caution came out after the completion of the first lap for a 2-car incident involving Matt Tebbs of Cogan Station and Brad Hutson Jr of Rock Cave, WV. As the field came back to full speed action, Pattock was leading Bittner, Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven, Jarett Cavalet of Hollidaysburg, and Jacob Gamola of Guys Mills.
On lap 13, Bittner made his move for the lead, passing Pattock. Jeffrey Weaver was also able to pass Pattock and move into second place. Bittner led lap number 20 followed by Weaver, Cavalet, Gomola and Pattock. The leaders began to encounter lapped traffic just past the halfway point of the race. At times Bittner was able to put a car between him and Weaver.
The remainder of the race went caution free with Bittner racing his way had through lapped traffic. He opened up a sizeable lead to seal the deal on winning his 2nd Nittany 40 at the 1/3-mile oval. Weaver finished second, followed by Jarrett Cavalet, Jacob Gamola, and Jim Pattock. Sixth through tenth were Kyle Hart of Thompson town, Zach Rhodes of McVeytown, John Walp of Wapwallopen, Josh Beamer of Picture Rocks and Nathan Pierce of Troy.
Jeffrey Weaver quickly advanced from his fourth place starting position to lead the first lap of the 270 Micro Sprint feature. Jillian Maurer of Elysburg and Mac Wert of Milroy battled for second and third. Wert eventually took over second place on lap number eight. Garrison Zook of Middleburg, who started sixth, raced his way into the top three on lap nine. Weaver would continue out front to lead every lap for the win over Wert, Zook Maurer and Denny Rhinehimer.
Ron Ergott and AY Schilling started on the front row for the Pro Stock feature event. Schilling led the first three circuits. Cory Long of Selinsgrove passed Schilling on lap number four. Third place starter, AJ Hoffman of Richfield added his name into the mix, as he raced into second on lap six. Long, Hoffman and Schilling battled three wide all in contention for the win. With five laps remaining, Hoffman passed Long. Hoffman would lead the final laps for the victory of Long, Schilling, Ron Ergott and Mac Bitler.
Fourth place starter, Justin Williamson of Huntingdon quickly moved to the front of the 4-cylinder pack. Matt Weaver of Madisonburg who started sixth followed Williamson to the front and was running in second. By the completion of lap five, Williamson was leading Weaver and Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown. Moyer began to pressure Weaver and made the pass on lap 10 as Kevin Evans of Elmira NY and Hunter Flook of Avis were running in the top five. The caution flag waved on lap fourteen setting up a one race shoot out. Moyer raced hard with Williamson, with the two cars trading paint coming through turns three and four. Moyer led the final lap for the win over Williamson, Evans, Weaver and Flook.
In the Jr. Sprint division, Joey Zambotti IV of Kittaning led every lap of the feature event. Carson McFerren of New Castle was second, Emery Macgill of Jersey Shore finished third.
The Clinton County Speedway will be off this Friday for a fair event. The speedway will return on July 3rd with a five-division show featuring the River Valley Builders RaceSaver Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints, Four Cylinders and the Central PA Legends.
