DKM's Paint & Body

DKM's Paint & Body DKM's Paint & Body is owned and operated by a 3rd generation auto body technician. He worked so hard, and I always idolized, and looked up to him. SWCC.

DKM’s Paint & Body didn’t start out a goal or plan, it started life as a dream, not even my dream. Let me explain, as a kid my dad worked at a body shop from the time I can remember until roughly 2000. He never pushed me into doing anything I really didn’t want to do. He always said when you grow up and find a career, I just want you to be happy. Actually as a young boy I wanted to be a carpenter

like my grandpa. Then fast forward a few years, I started showing interest in cars, and really got to paying attention to dad’s work. The amazing things he would do to complete rubble of messes and turn them into looking brand new again. I was hooked I wanted to learn as much as I could, as fast as I could. He started to notice that I started gettin into it and he got so excited but didn’t try to show it because he didn’t want to pressure me into something I wasn’t gonna love down the road. A couple years went by and things didn’t change, I just kept getting more and more passionate about it. My dad and I would talk a lot about how to fix this and that and then it got to where we were thinking about starting a shop together. After we visited about it off and on, it just sent me into a whole different gear. I wanted this so badly. Unfortunately, that’s not what life had in store for either of us. My dad’s mental health diminished roughly around 2000. It crushed my whole world but I vowed to someday follow out that dream and would turn it into a goal to one day to do this. In 2009 I graduated high school then went onto SWCC for collision repair. In 2010 I passed the ASE Certification tests along with all the ICAR training. After finishing SWCC, I went to Northwest Technical School from 2011-2012. My dad also went to Northwest Technical School for auto body. This was more of an on the floor type learning vs. I ended up going to Skills USA in Missouri, winning and moving on to take 8th in the state for refinishing and test taking. I got out into the field and unfortunately my mental health declined so the dream had to take a back seat for some years. I always tried to follow up with the education. Then I got the right help that worked for me and a lot of life changes. I decided to finally go all in on my dream. DKMs Paint & Body is my business name. The DKM’s part of it isn’t for me it’s my dads initials, Daniel Kevin Mackey, since he isn’t able to be right with me on this journey it’s only right to name my business after my dad who I owe all this to in the first place. So, all that being said, it would be very hard to find anyone as passionate about this business as I am. Thank you for looking at our page and we hope to do business with you in the near future. If you have any questions or would like to visit about repairs and/or refinishing your dream project, just send us a email or a message.

This is exactly why you can’t blindly trust aftermarket — or even OEM — replacement parts. I sanded the e-coat primer down and found rust underneath it. And if it were a quality coating, it wouldn’t have flaked off from the sander like it did in the video.

Just because the parts are new doesn’t mean they’re a safe bet. You never truly know what’s hiding between the layers. When you’re spending this kind of money on repairs, you want the best longevity possible for your investment.

The Fusion flip has been painted, along with the bumper, and is onto final assembly. Next up: swap the wheels, clean up and repair the rocker panel, detail the interior, buff it out, and have it looked over mechanically — then she’ll be ready to sell!

The buyer decided to go a different route, so it will be available for sale once it’s finished.

My least favorite thing to do, but man, the end results are amazing. Did a cut and buff on the Ram parts! 😎

A little metal fabrication on the replacement doors I’m using for my truck build — I’m grafting 1988 GMC mirror sections onto the 90s F-Series doors. I think it’s going to look sharp once it’s all finished out!

We get asked at least once a week if we do insurance work, and the answer is absolutely—we do.

We don’t heavily push it, simply because there are two other reputable shops in town that do a great job taking care of those types of repairs. That said, I truly believe there’s more than enough work to go around in this field, and every shop caters to different needs and wants.

With that being said, we’re more than happy to help with insurance repairs as well if that’s something you’d ever like to discuss.

A huge thank you to Mark and Chelsea for trusting me with your van and allowing me the privilege not just to fix your vehicle, but to go to work for you. Thanks again! Will be posting more on this once repairs are complete

Huge thank you to Tim Parrot at Parrot Metal Works for making us a custom dolly cart for our jacks, jack stands, and wheel dollies. It cleared up a ton of floor space and really improved our workflow.

Highly recommend Tim for any welding needs—the turnaround time was fantastic. Thanks again, Tim Parrott

Made some serious progress on the Fusion rebuilder—new radiator, condenser, support, cooling fan, and fluids all replaced, and the sheet metal has been test-fitted. Once we get a little more free time, we’ll be buttoning it up and it’ll hopefully be on its way to its new owner. Possibly sold already!

And don’t worry—we already have our eye on another one once this is finished. 😎

Making some serious progress on Larry’s 1969 Ford Torino!

A lot of the straightening is finished. Gaps are dialed in at the doors, quarters, and deck lid, and all the body lines have been sharpened up and made nice and crisp. Huge shoutout to Marcus for taking the initiative to lay down some high-build primer on this fastback.

Next step is letting it cure, then moving on to the fenders and knocking out some minor rust repair on the lower sides of the quarters. After that, we’re almost in the home stretch.

Man… this thing is going to be a beautiful rig when it’s done.
