📑 If you’re a nonfiction author or publisher, you already know how beneficial an easy-to-navigate index is for readers.

📔 After all editing and design has been completed, one of our expert indexers will read the full book to notate important topics and subtopics and their page numbers according to professional book publishing standards set by the American Society for Indexing. The index is provided in a Word document, which the book designer then places at the back of the designed book.

Infusing the old writing process with some easy-breezy games sounds like a fun way to spend a long weekend! ☀️ 📔 😎

T L Murchison lists some creative flights of fancy in "Writing a Novel: Make a Game of it" for Laterpress. Here's one of our favorites: Break The Glass

"Got a passage you’re not happy with? Print out each sentence on a sheet of paper, cut up into strips and throw them all in a hat. Draw them out randomly and put them together in that order. A variation on this is to cut the sentences themselves into three parts (subject, verb and object), toss all of them into a hat and after drawing them out, try to put them back together into sentences."

Indigo socials with our Portland-based Indigo team members are always a blast!

Four people, (from left ro right,) Ali Shaw, Olivia Hammerman, Nicki Yowell, and Vinnie Kinsella smile and pose in front of a yellow wall decorated with elephant art. ✍️ Get your pens and pencils ready! Bring your back-to-school energy to the notebook! Write Around Portland hosts all kinds of writing opportunities, including some free events, during September.

Write Around Portland uses creative writing to help people heal, change, and transform.

Its programs are designed to show participants that they are already writers. That their stories are worthwhile not just for their content but how they’re told.

Write Around Portland brings programming directly to the people who need it, writing with them in convenient places where they already live or receive services.

Go to writearound.org/events to learn more about these upcoming events and to register.

"What can I do to market my upcoming book?

"I receive this question a lot. Book marketing can have countless approaches, and I think the idea of reaching out to a dedicated book publicity firm—knowing that they often charge in the realm of $10,000+—can feel scary.

"No wonder so many authors want to do DIY marketing!

"But then, that means figuring out a whole new element in the publishing world. And if you’ve already gone through learning the ins and outs of editing, design, printing, and distribution, well, it’s understandable if you’re feeling overwhelmed by now.

"The foundational concept of marketing is..."
