SHOULD I INSTALL MY OWN FORK KIT?
-
Great Q. Dropping in our Pro-Action Fork Kit is not the hardest thing in the world—but there are a few factors to consider.
-
1) Are you mechanically inclined? Not only do you HAVE some basic hand tools, do you know how to use them? Most H-D riders can turn a wrench, so most of you are good on this aspect.
-
2) Do I even WANT to do this? Do you have the time, space, or even interest to do this? Or, do you have a gearhead buddy who LOVES to tinker, and would enjoy this more than you.
-
3) Do you have a bike lift, access to one, or have some apparatus to raise the front end enough to slide out the fork tubes? This is a pretty big part of the process. Even if you have the lift, we recommend inviting a friend over to help stabilize the bike while it is in the air. (Beverage and pizza payments are a good incentive).
-
4) Once the tubes are off, the rest is fairly easy. Just take your time and follow the steps in the video below.
-
5) DON’T DO IT! If you are having doubts or don’t have the time, WE can do it for you!
There’s two options:
A) If you DO have a way to get the tubes off, and don’t want to mess with the internals, you can ship your forks to us. Our master techs can’t swap in our Fork Kit and ship them back to you. Fees apply.
B) This may be the best route if you live in the Greater Pittsburgh, PA area… have US do it! Bring your whole bike to HQ and we’ll remove the forks, install our fork kit, and put it all back together for you. Fees apply. Reservation is required. Process takes 2.5 hours-ish. You can check out beautiful Beaver Falls, PA while you wait.
