🔧 Maintenance Monday: Brake Caliper Function 🔧
When you press the brake pedal, your brake calipers are what apply pressure to the brake pads and squeeze the rotors to help bring your vehicle to a safe stop.
Over time, calipers can begin to stick, seize, or leak, especially with heat, moisture, and normal wear. When this happens, braking performance and tire wear can suffer quickly.
⚠️ Signs of a failing or sticking brake caliper:
• Vehicle pulling to one side while braking
• Uneven or rapid brake pad wear
• Burning smell or excessive brake dust
• Reduced braking performance
• A wheel feeling unusually hot after driving
A sticking caliper can cause constant pressure on the brake pad, leading to premature wear on pads and rotors — and in some cases, unsafe driving conditions.
✅ Routine brake inspections help catch caliper issues early before they turn into larger and more expensive repairs.
If your brakes feel different than normal, it’s always best to have them checked sooner rather than later.
