Getting oil changes whenever versus maintaining an oil change schedule can make a huge difference in the health of your vehicle and help avoid costly repairs.
An out of town customer brought in a company truck with an unknown, but likely sporadic, maintenance history. He was experiencing the vehicle running rough, oil pressure reading low and codes signaling damage to the oil sending unit.
After our techs replaced the oil sending unit and had a successful test drive, the customer picked up his vehicle and drove it just over 40 miles before the oil pressure dropped out again.
This time the codes presented issues with the VVT solenoids… we decided to check the condition of the oil filter. And we found the oil filter caked in sludge.
After presenting a few options, the company decided it was best to perform an EPR (Engine Performance Restoration). This service cleans the gunk and deposits present in the engine, but in this case, the lack of proper maintenance had gone on too long… the amount of metal that was returned in the filter was a telltale sign replacing the motor would be inevitable.
After our services, the customer decided to drive the vehicle back to the company in NC for them to access and determine course of action. No matter what they decide, I’m sure properly scheduling maintenance for all company vehicles will be a priority!
