Discover the beautiful story carved into the trees of Vallecito Lake. 🌲🦅

If you take a drive around the lake, you will notice something incredibly unique: beautiful, towering wooden sculptures. Following the devastating Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002, local artist Chad Haspels transformed several of the dead, standing Ponderosa pines into stunning works of art.

These 14 carvings represent rebirth, local wildlife, and pay tribute to the emergency responders who fought to save the valley. Taking the self-guided "Tour of Carvings" around the community is one of the most meaningful and unique ways to spend an autumn afternoon here.
