Slow Down Move Over Inc. Confirms Funeral Arrangements for Fallen Georgia Officer Caleb Abney
Georgia — Slow Down Move Over Inc. confirms funeral arrangements for Officer Caleb Abney of the Hahira Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on February 19, 2026, during a traffic stop on Interstate 75.
Officer Abney was conducting a routine traffic stop with emergency lights activated when a three-vehicle crash claimed his life. He was just two months away from his wedding.
Visitation will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home in Adel, Georgia.
A public Celebration of Life will take place Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowndes County High School football stadium, where law enforcement agencies, first responders, family, friends, and community members will gather to honor his service and sacrifice.
This tragedy was not the result of a tactical operation or violent confrontation. It occurred on the shoulder of a busy interstate — the very environment where Georgia’s Move Over law is designed to prevent loss of life.
Slow Down Move Over Inc. continues to emphasize a simple, life-saving message:
When you see emergency lights, slow down and move over. No exceptions. No excuses.
Officer Caleb Abney’s death is a devastating reminder that roadside professionals stand just feet away from high-speed traffic every single day. His life mattered. His future mattered. His wedding that should have taken place in two months will now be replaced by a folded flag.
We ask the public to honor Officer Abney not only with attendance and condolences, but with action behind the wheel.
