Since it's been lost in translation, or at the very least "common knowledge", I am posting here and in person in the shop that there will be a $95 diagnosis fee for services performed to diagnose the problem you bring your vehicle in for. And if the customer chooses not to move forward with repairs, there will then be a $95 diagnosis fee assessed against your vehicle that must be paid before we will release the vehicle. It's honestly a little concerning that people do not understand this very common business practice.
Places like AutoZone, O'Reillys, etc do code scanning for free, but that is NOT considered a diagnosis. Their "suggested repair" is just that, a suggestion to buy a part based on a common repair being made because of that code. As we have seen in MANY cases, that code can be triggered by something similar, or in some cases, something completely different. These parts houses suggest that based on their business model, to SELL parts.
All this to say, if we assess this fee to you, it is because we used tools and knowledge to measure, test, and otherwise figure out what is going on with your vehicle based on the symptoms you give us when you drop your vehicle off with us.
We appreciate each and every one of our customers, and we hope this clears up any confusion on how most repair shops operate, as well as common practices by said facilities.
