Specializing in air-cooled VWs of any model: Bug, Ghia, Bus, Type 3, VW powered dune buggies or kit cars. If it has an air-cooled engine in it, or was built out of a Volkswagen, we can perform any kind of repair or restoration work needed. From tune ups, electrical system repair, or brake work, to interior/exterior finish work, and everything in between. We have an in house machine shop and build engines in any configuration from 36hp to stroker 2300cc+. Naturally aspirated or turbo. We have built hundreds upon hundreds of these engines and can build you a combination to suit street, strip, off road, or for a dependable daily driver. From the machine work, assembly, turbo system fab work, to carb tuning... Its all done here at Midwest Air-Cooled. We rebuild all types of VW transaxles: swing axle Bug, swing axle early Bus w/ reduction boxes, IRS, and Bus 3/5/6 rib. Stock and performance builds are available. Over 50 years of professional experience with air-cooled VWs between all of us at the shop. There isn't a nut or bolt we haven't touched on these cars. We operate with the "quality over quantity" mindset. All our work is done right, and we stand behind it. All of our engines are backed by a warranty. We've got some parts left over from a couple jobs for sale:

EMPI 2.5" drop spindle King Pin wide 5/Porsche pattern disc brake kit (spindles already rebuilt with new king and link pins). This is a brand new kit that was never installed, all parts included. Will need a set of KP spindles in exchange for the knuckles. $800 for the kit, which between the kit, king pins, and link pins you're getting the spindle rebuild labor for free.

Good used set of 5.7" Chevy journal H beam rods, 5/16 bolts. Rods don't have much time on them, bushings are tight. We changed up the engine combo on a build. These are out there for around $400 for the set. Selling for $200

For sale: completely rebuilt, dyno tested/tuned Judson supercharged 36H. Complete with stainless CSP Sebring exhaust. This includes the correct thin slot 12V 90mm generator rebuilt with Porshe armature. 12v coil and Pertronix electronic ignition fit in the 36H distributor. Also included but not pictured is a set of cotton jacketed original style plug wires. Can also be set up to be 6v if the buyer chooses. Engine has the Wolfsburg West Okrasa cam, all NEW: pistons/cylinders, exhaust valves, lifters/pushrods, valve springs, bearings, and oil pump. We have a full build sheet for the engine with all the details. It can be put back on the dyno if you'd like to hear it run, or we can install it in your VW. Please call us for further details. Price is $9500 outright.

Before anyone gets worked up over the price, keep in mind the Judson kit is easily worth $2500 by itself (the charger has been rebuilt with new bearings, sliding veins, etc). Additionally the CSP exhaust was nearly $1,000, and 12v 90mm generators are going for $600+ these days. If you're interested, please call the shop @ 314-775-6000

This 1600 running original fuel injection was pulled and cleaned up from a customer's VW that's been sitting 20 years. We have all the necessary wiring and fuel system built onto our dyno to make FI and engines a plug and play affair. This allows us to test these engines as equipped and tune the injection with wide band 02 readings before installation.
