One of these things is not like the other...
At Autobahn we had a pretty major engine failure in the that resulted in a pretty big fire ball. It happened with no warning, good oil pressure and still running until I turned it off. I did over rev the car 2 laps before the failure but it seemed fine, well, until it let go. I went back through the data and everything looked great. It is hard to tell what had caused the failure because most of the evidence got scattered from turn 7 to turn 8. My best guess is the overrev slightly stretched a rod bolt, causing it to spin the bearing, break the rod and windowed both sides of the block and oil pan. Another meets a cruel end.

Attn Subaru Friends!
We are on the hunt for a RHD Postal Legacy on the cheap. I don’t care if its running or not but ideally not too rusty, double bonus if it is pre-suspension change (before 2000). We are looking to build a seat time/ Sundae Cup car for next season. Did I mention cheap? The less we spend here the more I can funnel to rebuilding BNK. We are keeping an eye on all the usual sale places but if anyone knows of one squirreled away let us know! PFA

Well last weekend at Autobahn didn't end as I had hoped. We ended up with a component failure that caused the rod to window the block and ended in a huge fire ball. Here is the clip from the live stream that gave me my 5 minutes of fame.
In all the years I've spent tracking cars, this was the first time I've had a close call like this. I was grateful that I had an extinguisher in the car and that the safety crew was there fast to put it out. I walked away without any injuries and the car is rebuildable. It was a best-case worst-case scenario. If you race cars anywhere please make sure you have your fire protection in order to keep yourself and your car safe! You never think its going to happen until it does.
