VERY LONG READ BUT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ‼️‼️‼️🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
One of the biggest issues small businesses across the country are facing is folks choosing to spend their money online this post is not to criticize folks for making that choice but understand you cannot constantly complain about businesses closing loss of jobs lack of inventory on business shelves that I constantly read about and hear folks talking amongst each other
The biggest misconception most people don’t understand today is how on line companies and retail businesses large and small differ
We are going to use CMS as an example if you walk in our door and ask to purchase a part needed for repairs or to service your equipment
Those parts are on our shelves and we have bought and paid for most of them long before you walked in and requested them
Common sense practice is if it’s not selling multiple times a month we don’t buy it and stock it on shelves
Now let’s compare on line purchases to in store purchase when you purchase on line majority of those companies own little to nothing they simply accept your order and payment before you receive your product and notify their suppliers to drop ship you your products or if we use Amazon for example their process is manufactures and wholesalers send their products to their warehouses on consignment and as you make purchases they ship it and pay the owners of the products as they are sold
Small businesses do not get afforded those types of options
Now you may say yes but as a small business you are making profit
Yes we are but those profits have been reduced by up to 80% due to competition with on line vendors who own nothing and operate at little to minimal overhead (overhead is the cost of being open daily)
So for example if a small business buys a product for 10.00 in the old days their goal was to sell it for 20.00
Now days those figures or more like you buy for 10.00 and sell for 14-15.00 at best to remain competitive and relevant
So the goal would be to sell that product in larger quantities to make up for losses
That is no longer happening anywhere
We have over 40 years of business contacts and customers of all walks of life and it’s not happening
We can tell you for a fact it’s effecting every small business in America
Even service businesses are now struggling with it because home owners are asking them to install parts they have purchased on line instead of allowing the repairman to make a few dollars on the parts they normally provide
The main issue with this is that EVERYONE uses the excuse it’s saving them money
This excuse would make complete sense if your investing your savings or using those savings to create additional income for your family
That is not happening that money is merely being spent on other things many of which add no value to your overall net worth or benefit to your lifestyle
So the general public unknowingly is systematically ruining their local economy while not bettering their own quality of life in any way
Meanwhile small businesses are taking on enormous amounts of stress and debt to survive in hopes those habits will somehow change but they are actually deteriorating more by the day
We talk to multiple business owners daily that are in survival mode at best
Big box stores have even begun to close and shutter operations in many locations even some of the highest populated areas in the country are now feeling it
Now I know many will read this post and use the excuse that they are using this process out of convenience or the fact that gasoline and groceries and insurance costs have forced them into these practices
I heavily disagree most folks started these practices long before inflation really began to show up in grocery stores and gas pumps
Go to ANY fast food restaurant at breakfast lunch or dinner time
See how many door dash operators are lined up picking up orders
There are no patrons sitting down eating any more
So if saving money to better your overall quality of life than door dash would not exist and be thriving in all areas
Home grocery delivery would not exist
Amazon logistics vans would not be on every street in America
So please before getting on facebook and making posts and comments about all the businesses closing in your area is the fault of the local politicians and representatives do your homework
Politicians and representatives don’t help small businesses pay rent or buy inventory to resale
It’s up to patrons from the local economy to support those businesses
Lack of support = lack of options
It began with folks traveling out of town for purchases now it has transitioned into just buying it from your phone
Look at any major city in a 250 mile radius you once traveled too
With exception of a few they are all deteriorating rapidly and that responsibility falls solely on lack of support
Yes crime is higher now days in those areas but if more patrons were frequently in that area criminals would move on
Criminals don’t like attention they don’t like the possibility of frequent confrontation so if your area is in a high crime area go drive around in the daylight hours you will see why criminals are free to operate there no one’s around
I’m not at ALL excusing any city or community representatives or officials from their responsibilities but if the local patrons aren’t supportive what do the representatives have to work with ???
This is not a post to place the blame on anyone it’s merely watching the small business industry be decimated in the last 40 years
Most new small businesses fail in 3 years or less why is that ???
Because the money the borrowed to start their business finally runs out
Very Very few small businesses can sustain little to no support for more than 2 years
They open everyone rushes in to support them and then the new wears off folks move on and the business based their expectations off their first couple months in business now business is slow revenue dropped to O they are laying off employees and taking no personal salary themselves
No one can get up and go to work for free every day yet hundreds of small business owners are facing that daily
Please if you care just a little about your local economy put the phone down drive to a local business pay a little more ask the employees their name tell them yours create a relationship most likely if the business employees like you they will work with you on discounts anyway
If you have issues or need assistance then you can go back and engage in a solution to resolve it
When you buy online who are you gonna call for help no one you either send an email and hope they answer or get frustrated and throw the product away
How is throwing away products you bought because you saved money actually a savings ???
