Southeast Race Cars

Southeast Race Cars I build beautiful or wicked fast things from basic, ugly, or neglected metal. And FAST. No engine stand at this point. It even ran.

Southeast Race Cars really started in 1971 when I began working during the summers for my dad in his welding business. I fell in love with the way steel could be taken from its basic form and made into something beautiful and useful. Taking a pieces of metal and lovingly molding it (or beating it with huge hammers) kept me busy and mostly out of trouble. My first hot rod was a 1971 Vega with a 283

engine I rebuilt on a workbench. Dad taught me to do brake stand burnouts in the driveway in the vega not long after I got my drivers license. Atlanta Performance Engineering (APE) gave me a chance to learn how to apply finess in building cars. We did work for many of the heavy hitters of the day. APE is where the hook really got set. Southeast Race Cars and Hot Rods operate in a small shop near Ball Ground, GA. There is one fabricator(me) one designer (me again) and someone that answers the phone (me, when I'm not too busy) and an accountant (my wife Jan; we go over business during breakfast at the Chick Fil A). I have sons and friends who give me a hand occasionally, and yes, I do still own some big hammers.

I have been using our bank's bill pay for many years. I recently found out from a vendor that, in some cases, the payment I sent, wasn't the same amount as they received. So, why the discrepancy? It appears what I believed was being sent was a paper check or a bank to bank ACH style of payment was not. What was happening is that 2.5%-3% was being deducted as a "credit fee". How is that legal? We already get charged for sending more than 10 checks. Is anyone familiar with this?

It's been a while but I have been busy working on things. It's an injected small block Chevy front engine nostalgia dragster that Rick and I are building.

Fixed the 4 link bracket and added an extra hole so we can do some adjusting on the S10. Built an air intake pan that seals to the cowl scoop, Paul Baxter is mounting a set of slicks. Need to fill a couple of bottles, get some fuel, put some weight in it, and set the pinion angle. Next race is May 11th at Paradise!

Who goes racing in 38 degree weather? We couldn't wait until next year before running in the 6's (1/8th mile of course) Drove it to the track, Jay went a 6.76 ( and tore the front 4 link bracket about loose in the process) and then drove it back home, a 70 mile round trip. Over the winter we will fix the 4 link, tune the suspension (1.70 60 footers are unacceptable) add some 10.5w slicks, and turn up the N2O a little. Looking for sub 6.39's in the spring.

Drove the S 10 to work and back yesterday and today. 42 miles each way / 10 mpg x premium pump gas = empty wallet. No wonder we don't drive these things every day.

No, not the Cuda. This is our parts chaser, a 408SBC powered 1985 S10. It has spread port Darts, a Lunati roller, S**t forged rotating assembly, and about 9.75 compression. The headers are 1 3/4" inside the frame with 3" collectors (its a street truck.)
