Our latest featured project: a 1967 VW Squareback that arrived at our shop partway through a conversion that stalled back in 2012.
A thorough inspection showed the existing build had real safety gaps: no service disconnects, no HVIL, chafed high voltage wiring, and a BMS mounted in the cabin. We reworked the system from the ground up with a dual Orion BMS 2 relocated into the battery enclosures, service disconnects on both packs, and a full HVIL circuit.
The result is a 32.9 kWh pack delivering about 65 miles of real-world range, a Kostov 9" Alpha DC motor paired with an Evnetics Soliton Jr 600A controller, and a custom dashboard that keeps the classic character of the interior intact.
