🚘 The automotive industry is changing fast — but GM and Chevrolet may be better positioned than many people realize.

From the continued strength of Silverado and Chevrolet SUVs to GM's growing EV lineup, one thing stands out to me:

Customers still want CHOICE.

Gas. Electric. Trucks. SUVs. Performance. Technology. Capability.

Instead of betting everything on one version of the future, GM is building products for what customers want today while investing in where the industry is going tomorrow.

I shared my thoughts on why I believe GM and Chevrolet are positioned for the next chapter of the automotive industry.

One question I get asked quite a bit is, "Why do so many people continue to choose the Chevrolet Silverado?"

After working in the automotive industry for years, the answer is pretty simple: the Silverado continues to evolve while staying true to what truck buyers actually need.

Today's buyers want more than just horsepower. They want a truck that can tow with confidence, handle the daily commute, offer modern technology, keep their family safe, and still hold its value years down the road. The Silverado checks all of those boxes.

Whether someone is looking for a dependable work truck, a comfortable family vehicle, or an off-road-ready Trail Boss, Chevrolet has built a lineup that fits nearly every lifestyle. It's one of the reasons the Silverado remains one of the most popular trucks in America.

As someone who's spent years helping customers find the right vehicle—not just sell them one—I always enjoy discussing what matters most to truck buyers today.

If you're shopping for a pickup, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

What is the single most important feature you look for in a truck? Capability? Reliability? Technology? Comfort? Resale value?

Does Dropping Your Pickup's Tailgate Really Improve Fuel Economy❓

It's one of the oldest debates among truck owners:

Does driving with the tailgate down save fuel❓

Many people assume lowering the tailgate lets air flow through the bed more easily, reducing drag. It sounds logical—but testing shows the opposite is generally true.

Using the Chevrolet Silverado as an example, Chevrolet engineers and independent aerodynamic testing have found that keeping the tailgate up typically results in better fuel efficiency than driving with it down.

Here's why.

When the tailgate is up, ⬆️air flowing over the cab creates a circulating pocket of air inside the bed. This "air bubble" allows much of the airflow to pass over the bed instead of tumbling into it, reducing aerodynamic drag.

When the tailgate is down,⬇️ that pocket disappears, allowing more turbulent airflow to enter the bed and increasing drag.

What about a tonneau (bed) cover?

A properly fitted hard or soft tonneau cover can further smooth airflow over the truck. Depending on the design, driving conditions, and speed, most testing shows improvements of approximately 1–5% in fuel economy, with the greatest benefit typically seen during steady highway driving.

The Bottom Line

For most Silverado owners:

✅ Tailgate UP = Better aerodynamics than tailgate down.
✅ A quality tonneau cover can provide a small additional improvement.
✅ The biggest gains still come from consistent highway speeds, proper tire inflation, and avoiding unnecessary weight.

Sometimes the most common automotive myths stick around simply because they seem like they should be true—but modern aerodynamic testing tells a different story.

**What do you think?** Have you noticed a difference in fuel economy with your pickup?

If your truck is doing double duty this summer, here's what to check before you load it up.

✅ Hitch receiver torque, loose hitches are a real danger
✅ Bike rack strap condition, UV and heat degrade them fast
✅ Rear tire pressure, extra load means you may need to adjust
✅ Tail light visibility with the rack on
