🚤 Don’t Skip Your Boat’s Winterization and Pre-Season Inspection!

Proper winterization and a thorough pre-season inspection are essential to protecting your boat and avoiding expensive repairs. Before heading out on the water, it’s important to perform a “fake-a-lake” test to verify that the cooling system is working correctly and that the engine is circulating water as it should. We recently had a customer whose boat had not been properly winterized or tested before use. The engine’s impeller failed, restricting cooling-water flow and causing the boat to overheat. Unfortunately, the overheating resulted in blown head gaskets and major engine repairs that may have been prevented with proper maintenance and testing. Full rebuild on a 5.9 24 valve, cylinder 6 melted down and had a bunch of blow by. Found cylinder 6 injector to be stuck open and dumping fuel under load. Tech tip for the day if you have a Cummins and it’s got an auto transmission, a quick check for injectors starting to go bad. Let the truck run in park and give it some rpm’s a quick hit of the throttle to 2000-2800 rpm’s let off the throttle, if the rpm’s come down smoothly your in the clear, if it hangs and comes down rough time for injector in the very near future.

Another major project completed by Rhein Repair — a full cab removal and engine replacement on a Ford 6.0 Power Stroke. Pulling the cab allows our technicians complete access to the engine and surrounding components, ensuring every detail is addressed properly instead of cutting corners.
