At the end of December 2021 Jeri and I closed Auberry Service Center. The decision to close our business was for many reasons and I will list a few of them now. First, is for health reasons, my back has a bulging disk which pinches the nerves to my legs when I bend over like leaning over a hood or lifting items. This causes a sharp pain down my legs and limits my ability to walk. The bulge is not bad enough for surgery and if a wear a back brace and do not use my back in that way I am fine. So, that is limiting my ability to repair cars. There is a massive amount of stress running an auto repair facility and that has compounded during the pandemic and supply shortages. This makes it difficult to repair cars in a timely manner for my customers and increasing the stress. Years of stress has taken it's toll on Jeri and I and it is time for a less stressful lifestyle. The lack qualified auto mechanics available for me to hire and take my place in the shop is another reason to close the shop. The last few years we have experienced long periods of choking smoke and very hot weather which takes even a higher toll of long term damage our bodies. The complexity of new cars has taken a four fold leap in the last five years which requires much longer diagnosing times and increasing the stress. The fact of the matter is with the ever increasing complexity on newer cars means the small hometown shops will not be able to keep up with the technology and will fade away. We had our business for sale for two years at a very competitive price and no serious buyers were found. Then we saw on the horizon at the end of 2021 that interest rates were going to rise and if we were going to sell our house in California for top dollar and move to Idaho we had to move now. In closing the shop in December allowed us to finish the remodeling on our house that we started in 2017. We listed and sold the house for top dollar at the beginning of March just a week before interest rates rose. So off to Idaho we go.
We want to thank all our customer's for their support for all these years. You truly were a blessing to us and we thank you for allowing us to service your cars.

We implemented this policy two weeks ago for the protection of our customers and ourselves. Auto repair is an essential business so we are open as long as we are well and we have not been exposed to COVID-19. If any of us shows any symptoms then we will close and self quarantine. Again, we appreciate and thank you for your business.

If you have noticed that Auberry Service Center has not been opened on Fridays lately. Jeri and I have decided that I have needed to cut back on my hours for several reasons. After repairing cars professionally for going on 35 years now my energy level is not what it used to be. My body is wearing out and it takes longer to heal so Sunday needs to be a true day of rest for me. So I will only be working 40 hours a week instead of 50 hours by working a four day work week. My customer's are very important to me but my time off an my health is more important to me than money. So I do apologize for any inconveniences this may cause for my customers.

Heads up my son is getting married this weekend in Idaho. So we will be closed from June 19th to June 24th. We will be open on Tuesday the 25th as normal. We are very happy and excited about this union and for their future. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have for you.

Our new website is up. After having the flu for two weeks my energy level is back up to speed. The only good thing that came out of this sickness is it enabled me time to build us a website. Now I can update it myself in minutes. Thanks all my customer's well wishes during this time. My wife Jeri is still recovering from her bought with the flu but is quickly on the mend.

I want to let you know that our website is down for now. We fired the company we hired to produce and maintain our site because they were not living up to our expectations. So we are looking at our options now.

Hey everyone, this is Bruce. Sorry I have not posted anything in a while. We are still here fixing and repairing cars with the best of our ability. We focus on keeping your car reliable and safe. I believe in whole car service, which means even if your car is here for an oil change or some other repair I will give your car a look over an make sure it is safe. If it needs a test drive I will make sure it is running, turning and stopping correctly or I will let you know something is up.

The latest cars hitting the roads are technological marvels. Car manufactures keep refining engines and using all kinds of new ways of squeezing more fuel mileage from a engine. Using variable valve timing and direct injection are just a couple of these technologies. But, these new technologies put even more strain on the engine oil. So it is now more important than ever to keep your engine oil full and clean. I will expand on this problem and talk more on this in future posts.

Giving everyone a heads up. Jeri and I have not taken any extra time off in five months so we are taking a four day weekend off for Memorial Day. We are so exhausted and need a break. Sorry for any inconvience this may cause and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

If you are shopping for a new or used car please check out this website CarComplaints.com. Customers ask me all the time which used car they should by. Even though I know a lot about cars, there are so many brands and models out there it is hard to keep up. As a technician I know from experience the strong and weak points from every manufacture on the older vehicles. But on the newer cars less than five years old we need our online tools like this website for advice. You will be surprised to find that every manufacture has made lemons even the ones we thought were rock solid reliable. So look up that car you were thinking of buying and see what flaws it may have. Some minor flaws you can live with. Some, like a bad transmission, just stay away from.
