The Goal:
Our goal was to get the car across the finish line! In this sport that is an accomplishment!
Qualifying:
Our hope was to go out and finish qualifying with out beating up the car, and that exactly what we did! even with our GPS being a bit delayed we were able to qualify 10th position!
The Race!!!!!!
It was race day, we were lined up at 7:15pm for a race that would last 1.5 hrs. plus a lap. We had so many questions, would we need to fuel, would the coms work, would we need to pit?
That being said we left the start line to get our first lap in, the car felt smooth and comfortable as we made our way up rock ledges and through desert sections and back into the trees, all was well right up until it wasn't..... I told Cody Gavenda we were loosing brakes, so we pulled the car off the track and I hopped out of the car and qu**ky began looking for a leak and topped off the brake fluid. The good news was i didn't find a leak, the bad news was we didn't know what the brakes were going away. After crossing another section of dessert the brakes were back!!! We had concluded that the brakes had over heated.
After that it was smooth sailing, Well for our second lap anyway. Then came our third, we where really moving and had a great feel for the course until about half way through the last lap when we heard a loud bang from beneath our seats! We aske our self questions such, "is our race over?" "Did we just blow up a transmission or transfer case?" After a few minutes pulling on shifting levers we were able to pull it into two wheel drive high.
I told Cody Gavenda hopefully we can limp it in with a broken transfer case , Which quickly turned into me asking Cody how much course was left before we were at the finish line, he replied with we have to finish the desert, a small woods section and a rock section including a ten foot tall rock ledge. Well all i can say is our Maxxis Tires gave us an incredible amount of traction to push the car in two wheel drive all the way to the checkered flag with out out a single flat tire, and landing in 7th position!
