Did the EPA Eliminate DEF Derates and Legalize Diesel Deletes?

No, DEF isn't dead—and deletes aren't legal. Virals posts are claiming "DEF IS DEAD," but the actual facts are much simpler:

1. The EPA proposed replacing required SCR performance derates with persistent warnings on newly manufactured heavy-duty engines—not eliminating DEF or emissions standards.

2. Protective derates will remain. Engines can still derate to protect against physical damage (overheating, component failure, etc.).

3. Deletes are still illegal. The proposed changes do not repeal federal emissions laws or legalize bypassing emissions hardware.
