💯 A WORD ABOUT GOSSIP…
Be careful what you listen to—and even more careful what you repeat.
Gossip can destroy something a person spent YEARS building in a matter of minutes. Sometimes it comes wrapped in half-truths, assumptions, or somebody else's version of a story. But once those words leave your mouth, you can't take them back.
When you participate in gossip, you can take something from another person that money can't easily replace: their name, character, and reputation.
And here's something we sometimes forget: you don't have to spread gossip to participate in it. Sometimes simply giving it an audience keeps it alive.
Before repeating something about somebody, ask yourself:
Is it true?
Do I know it firsthand?
Is it necessary?
Is it my business to tell?
Would I say it if that person were standing beside me?
The Bible says:
📖 “Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people.” — Leviticus 19:16
Everybody has a story. Everybody has made mistakes. And everybody deserves the opportunity to have their character judged by the TRUTH—not rumors, assumptions, or somebody else's agenda.
Protect your mouth. Protect your ears. Protect people's names.
Sometimes the most powerful response to gossip is simply:
“That's not my story to tell.”
