Tommy's Auto & Performance Tommy's Auto & Performance is a local mom and pop shop in Atascadero, California, run by Tommy and Emily Bakar.

General automotive diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on gas and diesel vehicles as well as performance upgrades such as lift kits, leveling kits, suspension upgrades, turbos, injectors, and lift pumps. My wife Emily and I started this shop in January, 2019. Years of hearing about the poor stigma that comes with automotive shops and knowing of loved ones that have been repeatedly taken advantage o

f sparked a desire for us to open our own automotive shop. Our goal is to treat people as though they are family, serving them with honesty and providing them with quality automotive work. My passion for working on vehicles began at age 12 when I had an opportunity to work and learn about vehicles at a local tire shop. At this young age, I discovered my love for vehicles and serving people through them. Since then, I have been working in tire shops, off-road performance shops, as well as managing companies entire fleets of pick-ups, cranes, semis, and trailers. Our Mission:

2013 Honda Odyssey 🚗🔧
This van came in with a cylinder 6 misfire, but the root cause wasn’t what you’d expect.
After a thorough diagnosis, we found that injector #6 was shorted to ground inside the PCM, causing the misfire.
This is a great example of why proper diagnostics matter. A misfire doesn’t always mean a bad spark plug, coil, or injector. Sometimes the real problem is hiding deeper in the system. 👀
✅ Diagnose first. Replace parts second.

2008 Hyundai Elantra | 200,000+ Miles 🚗
This Hyundai came in after overheating. The customer had already replaced the hoses, but the engine still didn’t want to crank over.
After some diagnostics, we discovered the unfortunate news: a blown head gasket. 😔
This is also a great reminder that overheating should never be ignored. The longer an engine runs hot, the more likely it is that bigger problems can develop.

Diagnosing an A/C leak turned into an unexpected surprise. 😳❄️
Tommy was inspecting the evaporator looking for the source of an A/C leak when he found exactly what was causing the problem... and a whole lot of cat food. 🐱😂
Definitely not something we see every day!
The evaporator is leaking and will need to be replaced, which means the dash has to come out to access it. A big job, but we’ll get it handled the right way. 🔧💪
Just another reminder that every vehicle has a story... and sometimes a few surprises hidden behind the dash. 👀🚗

Let’s be honest... car problems never seem to show up when it’s convenient. 😅
It always seems to happen before a road trip, during a busy work week,dealing with drop offs and pickups with your kids, or right when you’re trying to stick to a budget.
