Hey, Friends! Ember Jo and I will be selling shirts again this year. This time around there’s no link to some website since my Mom was nice enough to volunteer to make them for us! These shirts will sell for $25. Shirt sizes range from Adult S-XXL. If you’re interested, send me a Venmo with what color and what size you’d like. We’ll leave this post up for about a week before we stop taking orders. Thanks again to all our family, friends, and the hunters. Ember and I are healthy and ready for a great season of putting deer on tailgates. Give us a holler when you need us! Stay safe out there.

Ember Jo started our season off right! Got a call for a track yesterday morning with a hunter reporting what believed to be a liver with possible lung. Hunter also reported that his lighted knock detached prior to puncture or upon puncture, no arrow could be found, and no blood to lead the way for him. This hunter did the right thing and backed out then gave us a call before grid searching the entire area. Thankfully, Ember is trained to track the Interdigital Gland and the blood is just a bonus.

We arrived on scene and got straight to work! With no arrow and no official hit sight to go off of we started with casting to see what she would hit on. Once she found her line, she was off to work. After dropping into a holler full of THICK invasive Sericea Lespedeza grass (try saying that 3x fast), Ember located our doe bedded down with an arrow still actively in the deer (scared the heck out of us both) she took off running but looked to be in obvious pain. Upon further investigation we determined this to be possible liver or spleen with exit into the gut so we backed out and agreed to come back that evening.

We arrived later that evening and got back to work at the Doe’s wound bed. 7 minutes later after trekking through the thick invasive grassy area and up a hill where she could look for potential predators in the area, we found her! Thankfully rigor mortis had not set in yet due to the doe subduing to her injuries recently so the meat is still good! 352 tracking yards total.

Our hunter advised at the end of this track that this was actually his first ever bow kill! I’m thrilled we could be a part of this journey with him as well as finishing it off with some meat on ice.

Ember Jo and I spent the weekend with smelly benelli wounded game recovery , Final Extract Big Game Recovery, and Braley’s Buck Recovery for the Black Gate Hunting Whitetail Social with Working Class Bowhunter! All sporting Labs except for Brandon who hasn’t caved yet. Almost had the matching tattoos done but had to bounce! We’ll hold off until the Iowa Deer Classic.

Ember Jo and I took full advantage of the nice weather these past few days. Today we ran a 24 hour old practice line to replicate an early bow season gut shot scenario. This track was also crossing a heavily traveled horse trail. Ember started the line very fast and very sloppy. This is expected after taking a break while it’s humid and 98° outside. After a firm reminder was given to Ember that she needs to slow her butt down and that this isn’t a game… she restarted herself at a slower pace and did much better! Next up, night time practice lines! Proud of this dog and her resilience.

As some of you may have heard, rapper Lil Wayne was a no-show at his own concert Tuesday night at the Bangor Waterfront.

Ember Jo and I would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Wheezy joined us for an evening of running practice tracking lines, and we completely lost track of time. Before we knew it… it was showtime.

Don’t worry—he said he’ll make it back to the Bangor Waterfront soon. Until then, we’ve got more practice lines to run.
