We want to be transparent with our customers and the communities we serve about a recent decision we’ve made: A-Town Elite Towing is no longer a contracted AAA towing provider.
This was not a decision we made lightly. We appreciate the customers AAA has sent our way and the opportunities we’ve had through the program. However, after evaluating our experience, we determined that continuing the contract was no longer in the best interest of our company or the customers we serve.
A major factor was the lack of call volume in our actual service area. A large majority of the calls being offered to us were in Lorain County, often close to an hour away. With the current rates, those calls simply aren’t sustainable when you factor in fuel, mileage, equipment, and the amount of time required to complete them which hindered our ability to service our area.
We also experienced situations involving what we felt was unacceptable communication and professionalism from AAA representatives.
Recently, we responded to a stranded motorist on I-71 who was already speaking with AAA. The customer specifically requested A-Town because we were already on scene and were a contracted AAA provider at the time. Despite the customer’s request and the fact that we were already there, the AAA representative refused to assign the call to us and instead provided the customer with an approximately three-hour ETA.
The representative then advised the customer to contact 911 and have the vehicle removed from the highway through the Ohio State Highway Patrol rotation, while telling the customer that the tow would be free.
As towing professionals with years of experience, we felt obligated to correct that information. Unfortunately, the conversation became disrespectful when we did.
We ultimately told the customer they could cancel the AAA call, and we assisted them ourselves at no charge.

What should you do if you need roadside assistance?
- If you currently use AAA primarily for roadside assistance, we strongly encourage you to check whether your auto insurance company offers roadside assistance coverage.
- Many insurance companies offer roadside assistance as an optional coverage, and in some situations it may provide another option for getting help without being subjected to extremely long wait times and the unnecessary stress that can come with waiting hours for a tow.
- Check your insurance policy or contact your insurance agent before you need it. Knowing what roadside assistance coverage you have ahead of time can save you a lot of frustration when you’re sitting on the side of the road.
And remember, even though we are no longer AAA contractors, A-Town Elite Towing is still here to help. You can always contact us directly for towing and roadside assistance.
Our decision to leave AAA is about the direction of our business—not about the customers who rely on roadside assistance. We appreciate every customer who has trusted us over the last few months, and we’re going to continue doing what we’ve always done: showing up, treating people with respect, and taking care of our community.
Thank you for supporting A-Town Elite Towing & Recovery.
