January 6, 2011: This is the press release sent out today by Crawford County CVB Director Craig Hull:

Farewell Saturday scheduled for Scotty’s Classic Car Museum
ARMA, Kan. – Scotty’s Classic Car Museum has announced it will celebrate a Farewell Saturday this Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and close its doors forever.

Scotty’s Classic Car Museum, owned, and operated by Scotty and Phyllis Bitner, have invited the general public to visit the vintage and classic car collection for a final time in Southeast Kansas. The museum is located at 302 North 9th Street and visible from the Highway 69 Bypass in Arma.

Opened in March 1999, Scotty’s Classic Car Museum has offered visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience an era of automobiles from the 1930’s through the 1970’s through a collection of automobiles, pop culture history, antiques, toys, automobile products, and memorabilia.

“The closing of Scotty’s Classic Car Museum is a loss that will be felt by the travel and tourism industry not only in Crawford County, but all of Southeast Kansas,” said Craig Hull, director of the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Over the years, I have witnessed numerous visitors, many of them on tour buses, who have stopped to experience Scotty’s Classic Car Museum. For them, it was an opportunity to step back in time, to enjoy an era long since gone and relive memories ranging from a magical first date to cruising with friends.”

Scotty’s Classic Car Museum has averaged over 2,000 visitors annually and is one of 27 free admission tourist attractions in Crawford County.

“I would encourage visitors who have always wanted to visit Scotty’s Classic Car Museum to make the trip this weekend. It is a one of kind collection; this will be the final opportunity to visit a collection of car memorabilia this diverse in Southeast Kansas,” Hull said.

Among the items displayed at the museum include 10 antique and classic automobiles, 40 neon signs, dozens of bicycles, 16 pedal cars, seven gas pumps, two classic Coke machines, 14 mannequins, lighted signs, Coke, Pepsi and NASCAR collectibles, clocks, thermometers, dolls, a gift shop and thousands of display items including hundreds of die cast cars and banks.
