TRUE STORY THURSDAY -
You Can't Make This Stuff Up!

You know that feeling when you've put in 16 hours of work, you're finally getting ready to wrap things up, and you can practically see the finish line?

Yeah… about that.

We recently had a 2020 Toyota Sienna come in needing quite a bit of work:

-Crankshaft main oil seal
-A/C recover and recharge
-Oil change
-Coolant fill and bleed
-Wheel alignment

After 16 hours of labor, we were getting ready to take it for a thorough test drive and make sure everything was running as it should.

But something just wasn't quite right.

So, naturally, we kept investigating.

And wouldn't you know it… we discovered the mass airflow sensor connector had been broken and rigged during a previous repair done elsewhere.

Surprise! We had one more thing to fix.

The catch? This wasn't a common part sitting on a shelf, ready to go. We had to track down and order the correct connector to repair the previous repair.

Unfortunately, that meant we couldn't get the customer's van back when originally planned. And while we know nobody likes an unexpected delay, we'd rather take the time to figure out what's wrong and get things running properly than rush a vehicle out the door when something doesn't feel right.

Because sometimes the hardest part of a repair isn't the repair itself… it's discovering what someone else left behind.

Sixteen hours of work, one unexpected plot twist, and a reminder that a good test drive is worth its weight in gold!

At Meiers Motors, we're going to keep checking until things are right - even when the finish line moves.

You really can't make this stuff up!

MEIERS MOTORS MONDAY -

Today we're celebrating Matt and wishing him a very Happy Birthday! (Actual birthday Oct. 4th).

And since today is also World Teachers' Day, we figured it was the perfect time to share a little story from Matt's childhood...

Matt and his identical twin brother, Mike, apparently started keeping their teachers on their toes at a VERY young age.

Back in kindergarten, Matt decided his brother's classroom had better toys, so naturally the solution was to switch classes.

And they didn't just do it once.

They kept it going for months.

Eventually, the kindergarten teachers started comparing the names on the boys' homework assignments and realized something wasn't quite adding up.

The boys had successfully fooled their teachers for months, and their mom eventually had to come down to school to identify which twin was which.

The story was even reported in the Post-Crescent back in the early '80s!

So on World Teachers' Day, we'd like to give a special shout-out to those kindergarten teachers who were apparently dealing with double trouble.

And, of course...

Happy Birthday, Matt and Mike!

We're glad you've grown up to be a mechanic instead of making a career out of fooling teachers.

October is officially here, which means we're heading into that time of year when the weekends start filling up with all the good stuff.

Football. 🏈
Bonfires. 🔥
Pumpkin everything. 🎃
Fall drives. 🚗🍂
Family gatherings. ❤️
And probably a little too much food. 😂

So let's start October with a simple question:

What's your favorite thing about fall?

Is it the cooler weather? The changing leaves? Football? Hunting? Bonfires? Apple orchards? Or something completely different?

Whatever you're doing this weekend, we hope you're enjoying it with the people who matter most.

And if your vehicle is going to be part of all those fall adventures, make sure it's ready to go.

SHOP TALK SATURDAY -

Yesterday we talked about exhaust systems and what happens when that part of your vehicle starts giving you trouble.

Today, we're showing you what that actually looked like in the shop this week.

This Ford Edge came in needing some exhaust work, and Matt got to work.

This wasn't simply a matter of swapping out one muffler and sending it down the road.

Matt had to:

-Replace the muffler and flex pipe section
-Repair a broken section of the passenger-side muffler

And this is where having the ability to work with exhaust in-house really comes in handy.

Instead of trying to make a one-size-fits-all solution work, Matt was able to repair and build what this particular vehicle needed.

Cut, fit, bend, weld… and repeat until it's right.

Yesterday we talked about exhaust.

Today, we're showing you what it looks like when we actually get our hands on it.

That's what Shop Talk Saturday is all about.

Real vehicles. Real repairs. Real work happening behind those garage doors.

FUN FACT FRIDAY - REPAIR EDITION

Your exhaust usually gives you a few clues before it completely gives up.

Here are a few signs it might be time to have your exhaust checked:

-It's suddenly louder than normal
-You hear rattling or banging underneath the vehicle
-You smell exhaust when you're driving
-You notice a hissing or ticking sound
-You can see rust, holes, or damage underneath

And here's something you may not know about us...

We can build custom exhaust right here at Meiers Motors.

If a replacement pipe or part isn't readily available anymore, that doesn't always mean you're out of luck.

We can bend, fit, and weld exhaust right here in the shop, including fabricating parts that are no longer available.

Basically, if the exhaust part you need doesn't exist anymore...

we may just make it.

That's one of those things we do that people don't always realize.

TRUE STORY THURSDAY -

This week, we're talking about something that reaches far beyond the shop.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

And here's a true story that doesn't need much explanation:

In the United States, an estimated 321,910 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2026.

And approximately 2,670 men will be diagnosed as well.

That's a lot of families, friends, coworkers, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, fathers, brothers, husbands and friends whose lives are affected.

Chances are, you know someone.

Maybe you're supporting someone right now.
Maybe you've supported someone in the past.
Maybe you've been through it yourself.

So this month, we're putting a little more pink around Meiers Motors and showing our support.

If you have an appointment with us during October, wear something pink and we'll take a little something off your bill.

And guys - YES, WE MEAN YOU TOO!

Pink shirt? Pink hat? Pink sweatshirt? Pink socks? Absolutely!

It doesn't matter what you wear, we just want to see some pink!

We'll be wearing ours, and we'd love to see you wearing yours.

October is about awareness, but it's also a reminder to take care of yourself, know your normal, and stay up to date with recommended screenings. Breast cancer found at a localized stage has substantially better outcomes, which is one reason early detection matters.
