The Sunrise RC Club has a great connection with Superstition Hobbies, a local shop owned by Mike.

Through this partnership, club members receive 10% off RC cars, tools, and supplies, something that makes it easier to stay involved in the hobby.

RC racing often requires ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and equipment, so having a trusted local resource makes a difference.

It’s a simple partnership, but one that supports both the hobby and the people who enjoy it.

Diane has been helping keep the sewing group going at Sunrise for the past 7 years.

She’s the one who makes sure the room is reserved each week, keeping things consistent so the group always has a place to meet.

While she doesn’t consider herself “in charge,” her role has helped create a steady rhythm for the group, something residents can rely on week after week.

Sewing has been part of her life since she was 18, starting with making clothes and eventually moving into quilting and bags.

For Diane, it’s something she enjoys personally, but also something she’s happy to share space for others to enjoy too.

For Rosemary & Mike, one of the most meaningful parts of Sunrise is how much the community gives back.

From supporting local organizations in Apache Junction to contributing to school districts and women’s groups, residents here find ways to stay involved beyond the park itself.

It’s something that happens naturally, people see a need and step in to help.

That mindset extends beyond Sunrise and into the surrounding community, making a lasting impact in more ways than one.

Poker at Sunrise takes place primarily on Tuesdays during season, running from about 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

There are also occasional Saturday games from 12–5 PM when there’s enough interest, offering a more casual option for players.

The game is Texas Hold’em, and players are expected to already know how to play, as games move at a steady pace. All games follow a consistent structure to keep things fair.

Anyone is welcome to join, as long as they’re familiar with the game and ready to be part of the group.

Five years ago, Greg pulled into Sunrise. Today, he's one of the lead monitors in our wood shop, and if you ask him what makes life here different, he'll give you the same answer every time: you can't walk a single block without stopping to talk to someone.

That kind of connection doesn't just happen. People like Greg build it.

When Greg got involved in the wood shop, he didn't just join, he helped move it forward. He led the charge on building out the golf cart parking alongside other members. He's had a hand in shaping the space itself. He helps lead the fundraisers that keep the shop running, working right beside the other monitors and members to make it all happen. And he teaches classes too, showing members how to make projects like pizza cutters and passing on the skills that make this shop what it is. On his own time, you'll find him crafting detailed pieces like heart-shaped jewelry boxes, the kind of work that shows just how much heart he puts into his craft.

Between 30 and 50 members pass through the wood shop each year, and Greg has become a steady hand behind so much of what they get to experience. The shop wouldn't be what it is today without him, and the people who spend their mornings there will be the first to tell you that.

Five years in, and Greg is still showing up, still building, still teaching. That's Sunrise. That's what neighbors look like here.

The sewing group at Sunrise meets every Wednesday and is open to anyone who wants to bring their own project and spend time creating alongside others.

Participants bring their own materials, fabric, patterns, and ideas, and work on projects at their own pace.

The room is equipped with shared tools like rotary cutters, mats, rulers, irons, and ironing boards, making it easy to settle in and get started.

There’s a lot of experience in the room, especially when it comes to quilting, and while it’s not a formal teaching group, people are always willing to share knowledge and help when they can.

Ken has been part of Sunrise for 12 years, and for the last 7 of those, he’s been a steady presence out on the pickleball courts.

What stands out most about Ken isn’t just how often he plays, it’s how he shows up for others. He genuinely enjoys the social side of pickleball and often shares that it’s one of the best ways to meet people and feel connected in the community.

If someone is new, unsure, or just watching from the sidelines, Ken is usually the one who notices first. He takes the time to invite people in, explain the game, and make sure they feel comfortable stepping onto the court.

Over the years, that simple approach has helped a lot of residents get involved, not just in pickleball, but in the community as a whole.

For Ken, it’s never just been about the game. It’s about making sure people feel included when they get here.

Women’s horseshoes takes place every Monday at 10:00AM and has become a steady part of the Sunrise community.

This season, eight dedicated women have been coming out each week to play. With two courts available, that’s the maximum number who can play at one time, making it a small, close-knit group.

There are no formal lessons, just encouragement and a willingness to jump in and try. Over time, the group has seen real improvement and confidence grow among the players.

The season includes both a mid-season and end-of-year tournament, with a traveling trophy awarded to the year-end winner to hold until the next season.

It’s a great example of how something simple can become something people truly look forward to.

The Sunrise Bike Riding Club has wrapped up for the season, but it'll be back once the summer heat settles down.

Every Wednesday during season, anywhere from 10 to 20 riders head out together to explore trails across the greater Phoenix area. Some ride electric bikes, others ride standard. Nobody cares which. What matters is showing up and enjoying the ride.

It's one of the best ways to break up the week around here, stay active, see parts of the Valley you might not find on your own, and spend a morning outside with good company.

Next time you're passing through the front office at Sunrise, take a minute to check out the rack by the desk.

It's stocked with pamphlets, flyers, and business cards covering everything from local attractions and nearby services to upcoming events and community resources. Whether you're new to the area or just looking for something to do on a Tuesday afternoon, chances are you'll find what you need right there.

The front office team is always happy to point you in the right direction too. It's a small thing, but it's one more way Sunrise makes sure everyone feels informed and settled in from the start.
