RC racing at Sunrise includes several different styles, though the club primarily focuses on dirt oval racing, where every turn is to the left.

While that might sound simple, it takes real coordination to control the car using a handheld radio. Drivers manage speed with a trigger and steering with a small wheel, learning over time how to handle turns, pace, and control.

There are also many other forms of RC racing that members enjoy, including off-road racing with jumps, rock crawling, drag racing, and casual “bashing,” which is how many people are first introduced to the hobby.

For most, it starts simple, and then grows into something they really enjoy spending time on.

One of the sweetest things about Sunrise RV Resort is how this community shows up for each other. Our resident-run clubs team up with the resort to host fundraisers and raffles for all kinds of causes. Extra tools for the wood shop, a new shed for the shuffleboard team, even support for local public schools when they need a hand. Whatever the cause, the neighbors here find a way to make it happen. That's the heart of this place.

There's a quiet corner of Sunrise RV Resort where the afternoon slows right down. Our community library holds over a thousand books, so finding your next read feels a little like a treasure hunt. Pull up a chair, pick a story, and stay awhile. It's the little things like these that make a season here feel like home.

RC season at Sunrise runs from October through April, with a consistent schedule that residents have come to look forward to.

Races are held on Sundays at noon, with practice and training sessions on Thursdays at 1PM.

The club runs about 6–7 different racing classes, all using 1/10 scale cars to keep competition fair. These cars are typically around 30 inches long and 12 inches wide, and all drivers use 2S lipo batteries to ensure consistency in speed and performance.

Getting started can range anywhere from $300 to $1,000 depending on the setup, but once you’re in, it becomes something people really enjoy sticking with.

Whether you’re racing or just watching, it’s a great way to spend time in the community.

The Sunrise Wood Shop isn’t just a place to build things, it’s a place where people show up for each other.

Each year, the group hosts three fundraisers: a Hawaiian shaved ice social, an ice cream social, and a large dinner event. Across these events, they feature over 120 handcrafted items made right in the shop, everything from cutting boards and lamps to jewelry boxes and custom pieces.

At their largest dinner fundraiser, guests are welcomed with two free door prizes and a raffle ticket, and the room fills with neighbors supporting neighbors.
Altogether, these events bring in around $9,000 each year, which goes right back into the wood shop, helping fund materials, tools, and future projects.

But what stands out most isn’t the number, it’s the way people show up.

At one fundraiser, a woman shared that she wanted to support but didn’t have the money. Greg simply told her, “Don’t think twice, go get yourself an icy drink.”
That moment says everything about this group.

It’s not just about what they make. It’s about how they take care of people.

Holey Hole has become one of the most loved weekly traditions at Sunrise—and a big part of that is the way it brings people together.

Each week, anywhere from 24 to 46 residents come out to play, with some days reaching as many as 64 participants. Everyone is paired with a new partner and plays against different people throughout the afternoon, which makes it easy to meet others and feel part of the group.

At the end of each game, the winner takes home a rotating trophy for the week. Their photo is taken, shared on the park’s page, and added to the bulletin board by the post office.

What makes it special is how open and unpredictable it is. First-time players have won. Games have come down to sudden death playoffs. And sometimes, just when someone needs one final point to win, a perfect shot sends them backwards instead.

It’s lighthearted, social, and something people genuinely look forward to each week.

The Sunrise RC Club has a great connection with Superstition Hobbies, a local shop owned by Mike.

Through this partnership, club members receive 10% off RC cars, tools, and supplies, something that makes it easier to stay involved in the hobby.

RC racing often requires ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and equipment, so having a trusted local resource makes a difference.

It’s a simple partnership, but one that supports both the hobby and the people who enjoy it.

Diane has been helping keep the sewing group going at Sunrise for the past 7 years.

She’s the one who makes sure the room is reserved each week, keeping things consistent so the group always has a place to meet.

While she doesn’t consider herself “in charge,” her role has helped create a steady rhythm for the group, something residents can rely on week after week.

Sewing has been part of her life since she was 18, starting with making clothes and eventually moving into quilting and bags.

For Diane, it’s something she enjoys personally, but also something she’s happy to share space for others to enjoy too.
