Water expands when it freezes — which is exactly the problem for anything left inside an engine block over winter. Even a few nights below freezing can crack a block that skipped winterization, and it's one of the most common (and expensive) repairs marinas see every spring.

As the days get shorter, more of your time on the water ends up happening right around dusk — which is exactly when the rules matter most. On the Chain O' Lakes, nighttime boating is capped at 25 mph, and there are 32 no-wake zones scattered throughout the system.

A quick refresher now means smoother (and safer) evenings on the water for the rest of the season.
