Big news for Indiana families: complete Driver Education, and your teen can test for their license on their 16th birthday, 90 days earlier than before, starting July 1, 2026.

Skip Driver Education, and the age is unchanged at 16 years, 270 days. Every new driver still needs a 180-day permit, a signed log of supervised driving, and passing vision and driving tests. Driver Education is what unlocks the earlier date.
