Wiley's, Annual drive, potluck, and bonfire!
When: Saturday, October 03, 2026 2:00 PM, CDT

EVENT DETAILS:

It is time for the annual drive, potluck dinner, and bonfire (weather and local ordinances permitting) at the home of Ken and Sue Wiley, who have graciously opened their party barn for us for how many years now? Here is your invite and RSVP. Many of us know our way to the Wileys, for others and as a refresher, their address is 9311 NW 121st Street, Grimes.

We typically gather at 2:00 for a country drive designed by Don Jennings. The route is yet to be determined.

Dinner is at 5:00, and the bonfire after dark. We will cater the meat, pulled pork and sandwich rolls, and try a new system for the rest of the meal: In an attempt not to end up with 10 raspberry pies,

if your last name begins A-G-appetizers,
last name H-R-side dishes,
last name S-Z-desserts,

Please be sure to label your containers and utensils, and be sure to gather your items before departing.
An accurate head count will certainly help with the ordering of the meat. So please let us know before Sept 27th.

We know plans can change, so if you suddenly can't attend, you can respond to the email, and if you feel you can come last minute, go ahead! There will be plenty to share.

We can all look forward to another marvelous afternoon and evening at the Wileys’.

We have been invited!

Hello,

I’m reaching out to ask for your assistance with our participation in the upcoming car show.

We’re excited about the opportunity to be part of this community event and would appreciate any support you may be able to provide to help make our participation a success.

In September we celebrate National Assisted Living Week, this is an annual observance were I can honor my tenant and staff. This year's theme is Shining Through the Years, and the one thing I can think of when I hear this theme is the years of cars and trucks. I have decided that I would like to hold a Car Show for my whole community. A car show is a great opportunity to connect and reflect and build more meaningful relationships.

If anyone in your community would be would want to come to come out for an hour to show off their treasured items or would just like to make a quick drive through our parking lot it would be greatly appreciated by all of us.

We've been invited...

This car show is in Bouton, near Adel on September 26th. My step sister is inviting our club to participate if you are available. This is their fundraiser. CIAC serves 10 counties and helps with expenses that aren't covered by grants. Their goal is 100 cars!

9:45 Meet at the tanks overlooking Camp Dodge.

10:00 Depart for the Mucky Duck for brunch.

He said he would block off an area where we can park so it is important that we have a headcount on who plans to attend.

There is a charge to enter the garden but it is well worth it. Consider bringing you kids or grandkids because they will especially like the butterfly garden.

Admission is: $12 General Admission
$11 Seniors 65 and up
$6 Youth 2-12

They do have a reciprocal agreement with other gardens for a possible discount.

The Carillon is, housed in the campanile is the largest musical instrument in Iowa, with a total of 50 bells that weigh almost 30 tons.

EVENT DETAILS from organizer Tom O'Donnell:

I am organizing the IBCC State Fair Invasion on Saturday, August 22, 2026. We will be displaying our cars from 9-4 at the same location as we have for the last several years by Pioneer Hall. I spoke to Regina Pirtle yesterday, and we can have about 20-25 cars displayed.

Cars are supposed to be 1975 or older models. I will start my list of attendees now. Let me know if you are interested. Regina needs your name, phone number, and mailing address. I will collect all that info and pass it on to Regina. She mails out the car passes and one state fair ticket to attendees.

Regina is calling all those who attended last year. So, even if you spoke to Regina, please contact me as soon as possible if you plan to attend so I can lock in our spots.

Most of us meet at the Walgreens on University Ave and E30th by the fairgrounds. Then, we leave at 8 AM and drive into the fairgrounds thru the campgrounds off of Dean Ave.

Here is the schedule of events for our drive to Grinnell, car show, and lunch on Saturday, May 9, a joint effort coordinated with the Iowa City British Car Club. There are a lot of moving parts here, so we really need your help in coordinating. Please RSVP if you plan to join us. Include how many in your party (remember, your response in Wild Apricot requires that you add just 1 guest if you are a couple).

Registration, Lunch Order & Event Details

When you register for the event, please let us know what you would like to order for lunch. Pagliai's Pizza needs an accurate headcount and advance orders so they can serve our group efficiently.

Deadline: Registrations and lunch selections must be submitted on the registration form no later than May 1.

Drive & Parking Plan

We will meet for the drive to Grinnell at 9:15 at the Maverik Store - 5970 Morning Star Ct., Pleasant Hill. Just off East University/Hwy 163. Driving directions to the Grinnell High School have yet to be finalized, additional directions will be forthcoming, and handouts will be available prior to departing.

At the Grinnell High School, we will stage in the east parking lot where parking will be coordinated by Rich Clarke and Randy Cumpton. A student service group will monitor the parking lot while we are away, and the Grinnell Police Department have offered periodic patrols.

Lunch Transportation

We will be bussed downtown to Pagliai's Pizza for lunch and then returned to the high school afterward.

Additional Reminders

Please wear your club's name badge and feel free to display your car show placard, if you have one

Return Trip

Depart around 2:00-2:30 to head for home on your own.

APRIL DRIVING EVENT

Where: Tank Display on Beaver Drive, North Side of Camp Dodge

Master Planner Chuck McGuire has created a driving event exploring NE Polk County. We will meet at the tank display at Camp Dodge and end up at The Over-the-Top Ice Cream Shop in Pleasant Hill. We will provide them with a head count. The drive part will take about 2 hours.
