Interesting question!
I'm curious on your answers!
If you had a basketball hoop with a clear backboard, I thought your family was LOADED.
I’m talking automatic rich kid status.
Growing up, I didn’t need to know what your parents did for a living.
I didn’t need to see the house.
I didn’t need to ask if you had name-brand cereal in the pantry.
If there was a clear plexiglass backboard in your driveway, I already knew you were living in a different tax bracket.
We had the kind of hoop that leaned slightly to the left and made every shot feel like a physics experiment.
The net was either missing, frozen, or hanging on by one exhausted loop.
Meanwhile, the clear backboard kids had the driveway setup that looked like a Foot Locker commercial.
Those were the houses where you assumed they had Capri Suns, a basement, cable in more than one room, and parents who bought snacks without saying “we have food at home.”
It’s funny what your kid brain decides is rich.
For some people, it was the fridge with water in the door.
For me, it was that clear backboard.
That thing looked like generational money with a rim attached.
