Had some diagnostic fun yesterday. Truck was brought in with complaints blinkers not functioning and high beams would only work when handle was pulled back.
Multifunction switch had previously been replaced and did not resolve the issue.

Started with testing grounds at the lights themselves which were good. Got into pinpoint testing of the circuits which really didn’t lead anywhere.

Finally found the pinout for the X2 connector on the switch and found that both grounds were open. Added temporary grounding and was able to get left blinker to function. Tested end to end from BCM to X2 and found an open on right blinker.

Further investigation lead to the root cause of improper routing of the steering column harness resulting in all but one wire broken for X2 and one wire broken on X1 which I’m sure is the reason for the bright lights not working properly. (I was running late at the shop and didn’t have time to check which wire it was that was broken on X1)

Proper diagnosis takes time, especially on electrical issues. I don’t throw parts at repairs hoping they will stick. No need for bulbs, multifunction switch, headlight switch, daylight sensor, or BCM. This one will get a new harness if it’s available due to the extend of damage on these wires, otherwise I will order pins and replace about a foot of the wires.

Y’all don’t forget we repair medium duty trucks too! Here’s 2 Internationals I finished up today.

1 for Walker Electric Inc. on an old 1999 crane truck with a T444E (7.3L) that hasn’t started correctly since they got it years ago. I’m pretty sure I have finally ended that saga but we’ll know first thing tomorrow!

The other one was for Maples Market. Theirs is a 466 EGR that died Friday afternoon while idling. Ended up with 2 new batteries due to a loose connection and also had a burnt pin on the ECM weatherpak. Then a new starter and she was back so y’all can keep getting those fresh veggies and seafood!!

Did I mention I’m slammed and could really use some help!?
