A recent customer call was a great reminder that proper diagnosis and attention to detail matter.
The customer had taken their truck to a local quick-lube shop for a no-start issue. Shortly afterward, they called me out because the truck still wouldn’t crank or start.
I started with the basics: battery voltage, ignition switch operation, starter relay function, and then moved underneath the truck to inspect the starter.
That’s when I found the problem.
The starter had been replaced fairly recently, but the small signal wire terminal had been overtightened. The excessive torque had actually pulled the stud right out of the starter.
In other words, the starter itself was relatively new—the installation was the problem.
This is exactly why proper diagnosis and quality workmanship matter. Sometimes the problem isn’t the part; it’s how the part was installed.
As a mobile auto repair business, my goal is to come to you, take the time to properly diagnose the vehicle, explain what I find, and get you back on the road without unnecessary parts or guesswork.
Have you ever had a repair-shop or quick-lube horror story? I’d love to hear about it. Drop it in the comments! 👇
