2021 Mercedes-AMG GT63S in for a major oil leak coming from the rear of the engine.

At first glance, this looks like a typical rear main seal failure — but on the M177/M178 4.0L twin turbo AMG V8, that’s not always the full story.

These engines are known for crankcase ventilation (oil separator) issues that can create abnormal vacuum in the engine. When that happens, it can actually pull on the rear main seal and cause it to fail.

That’s why we don’t jump straight to parts replacement — we verify the root cause first.

Right now the vehicle is still in diagnostic stage pending approval.

Not every oil leak is what it looks like.
